United currently is offering targeted cardholders bonus Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) on credit card spending through June 30, 2022. You'll want to register as soon as possible to maximize your bonus through this promotion. The first deadline is coming up on April 30, 2022.

What Are United PQP?

For those not familiar, there are two types of points you can earn through the United MileagePlus program: MileagePlus miles and Premier Qualifying Points (PQP). MileagePlus miles are redeemed on flights and upgrades, while PQP help you earn United Premier elite status — along with Premier Qualifying Flights (PQF).

The United Premier elite status requirements are as follows:

When flying United, you'll earn 1 PQP for every eligible dollar spent on airfare (including carrier-imposed surcharges).

On United's partners, calculating your PQP is as follows: earn 1 PQP for every 5 MileagePlus miles gained when flying with preferred partners, and 1 PQP for every 6 MileagePlus miles gained from partner airlines. There are caps for how many PQPs you can earn on each flight as follows:

  • Purchases do not include balance transfers, cash advances, traveler’s checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cashlike transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, racetrack wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, or fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.
  • Returns and refunds will be deducted from purchase amounts.
  • Promotional PQPs will apply toward Premier® status tiers up to and including Premier 1K.

Our Take

This is a really good promotion to take advantage of, as long as you're targeted. Of course, you'll have to reach the minimum spending limits to earn the bonus PQPs, which not everyone will be able to hit. If moving up the United elite status levels is important for you, then you'll probably want to work out how to arrange some additional spending for this promotion. But check if you've been selected first.
