Earlier this year, British Airways reduced the requirements for Executive Club elite status by 25%. Now, British Airways lowered requirements again for current Silver Elite status members whose status is set to expire by September 30, 2022.

Current British Airways Silver Status Requirements

Typically, British Airways Silver Elite status requires 600 Tier Points in a membership year. However, until the end of 2022, British Airways lowered the requirements by 25% to 450 Tier Points. Now, British Airways announced another decrease for certain Executive Club members.

Current Silver Elite status members whose membership expires in August or September 2022 will only need to earn 300 Tier Points to renew their status for another year. In addition, you also still need to fly 4 eligible flights with British Airways.

To earn British Airways Silver through flights, the airline dropped the requirement to 25 instead of the usual 50 flights needed for Silver Elite status.

Please note that the Tier Point tracker on British Airways' website will continue to show a requirement of 450 Tier Points as this reduction does not apply to all Members.

Why Aim For/Keep British Airways Silver

Executive Club Silver

British Airways Silver Elite status comes with the following benefits:

  • Priority boarding.
  • Free seat selection at boarding.
  • Access to business class lounges.
  • Extra baggage allowance.
  • 50% bonus Avios.

Additionally, Executive Club Silver status transfers to Oneworld Sapphire. This status comes with its own benefits. Most of these benefits are the same as what you'll get when flying BA as a Silver status member but applicable to all Oneworld Alliance airlines. That includes access to all Oneworld Alliance business class lounges — including American Airlines Flagship Lounges when flying American Airlines or Alaska within the U.S.

Our Take

This is a limited promotion just for Executive Club Silver members whose tier status expires before September 30. If you're one of those members, then definitely consider taking advantage of this promotion. Note that your account will still say 450 Tier Points are required for renewal, but you should get the renewed status with only 300.

Members in the US will need to decide if you want to move up the BA status levels or work toward AA Platinum or Alaska MVP Gold status instead. All three get you Oneworld Sapphire elite status, while also providing benefits on their own airline. However, only British Airways Silver elite status grants lounge access when flying domestically within the U.S.
