To qualify for the Travel Together Ticket, British Airways Visa Card cardholders must meet a spending threshold of $30,000 within a calendar year. This breaks down to an average monthly spend of about $2,500. Once you’ve achieved this milestone, you'll earn a Travel Together Ticket, valid for two years from the date it’s issued.
Although $30,000 may seem like a significant chunk of change, putting everyday expenses and the occasional big purchase on your card can help you reach the goal faster. The reward can be well worth the effort, as the Travel Together Ticket offers the potential for significant savings — sometimes saving you several hundred or even thousands of dollars when booking flights with British Airways.

How Does The British Airways Travel Together Ticket Work?
After you meet the British Airways Visa Card‘s $30,000 spending threshold, your Travel Together Ticket will be added to your British Airways Executive Club account approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the billing cycle in which it was earned closes. Keep in mind that you can only earn one voucher per calendar year.
You'll receive your annual companion ticket when you use your Travel Together Ticket to book an award flight with Avios. This allows your travel companion to fly with you for no additional Avios — you’ll only be responsible for covering taxes and fees. This benefit applies to all cabins, including business and first class.
It’s important to note that the Travel Together Ticket isn’t entirely free, as taxes and fees still apply. These charges include British Airways’ infamous carrier-imposed surcharges. Even with these fees, the out-of-pocket cost is generally significantly less than paying for a second full-price ticket outright.

Use your British Airways Travel Together Ticket for solo trips
Interestingly, the Travel Together Ticket isn’t just for two-person trips. You can also use it for solo travel, reducing the Avios required for your booking by 50%. And while this benefit was once limited to British Airways-operated flights, it has recently been expanded to include Aer Lingus and Iberia flights.
How To Redeem Your British Airways Travel Together Ticket
Redeeming your companion voucher begins with logging into your British Airways Executive Club account. Once logged in, you can book an award ticket using your Avios.
Your award booking must be made entirely with Avios to utilize your Travel Together Ticket. Unfortunately, combining Avios and cash isn’t an option. If your Avios balance falls short of what’s needed for your desired itinerary, you can purchase additional Avios to make up the difference or transfer credit card points to Executive Club.
While the Travel Together Ticket doesn’t come with traditional blackout dates, availability is still key. You’ll need to locate two award seats in the same cabin for your chosen flight (assuming you’re booking for yourself and a companion). This can sometimes be tricky, especially during high-demand travel periods.
After securing award availability, select the passengers who will be traveling. You can apply your Travel Together Ticket to the booking when you proceed to the payment stage.
How Valuable Is the Travel Together Ticket?
The Travel Together Ticket only covers the number of Avios needed to book a flight; you will still have to pay any taxes and fees when you redeem it. While the costs can add up, it’s still much less expensive than buying a full-fare award ticket.
It provides excellent value for someone who prefers to travel on British Airways or the airline's sister brands, Aer Lingus and Iberia. You'll get the most value from the companion ticket benefit if you make a significant amount of purchases with your credit card annually, like to travel in premium cabins, and have fairly flexible travel plans.
It doesn’t work out as well for someone who stretches their spending habits to hit the $30,000 threshold. It also is not well-suited for someone who does not have flexibility in their travel plans or who primarily travels in coach cabins because it might not be worth the extra spending required.

Assuming you’re the ideal traveler for the British Airways Visa Card and the Travel Together Ticket, here’s an example of how much you can save on two sample Avios award redemptions:
New York (JFK) to London-Heathrow (LHR) in economy in January 2025:
