Apple Pay and Citi Flex Pay are partnering to allow shoppers to spread out their spending without interest. With this partnership, shoppers can spend $75 or more and spread the cost over three months without credit card interest or fees while earning Citi ThankYou points. Here's what you need to know.

What is Citi Flex Pay

Since 2019, Citi Flex Pay has been Citi Bank's buy now, pay later program. Cardholders can spend at least $75 in a single transaction and spread out the costs over three months or more. Citi Flex Pay does not charge interest or fees when using the three-month payment plan. Longer payment plans incur a small monthly fee.

Citi Flex Pay Details

Citi does not do a credit check when cardholders use CitI Flex Pay. The feature is built into eligible Citi credit cards in the U.S. To use Citi Flex Pay, make a payment of $75 or more through the Citi Mobile App or Citi Online. Cardholders have their choice of payment plans — but keep in mind that only the 3-month plan does not have any fees. You will see the payments each month as part of your Minimum Payment Due on your statement.

You can also use Citi Flex Pay with the Citi Travel Portal. Better yet, you can spread out your Citi Travel payments for up to 12 months without incurring any interest or fees, as long as your minimum spend is $75.

This payment plan is an excellent way to spread out the cost of a purchase without paying interest or additional fees. Cardholders still earn ThankYou Points on all purchases made with Citi Flex Pay.

Citi now has a partnership with Apple Pay. Starting February 2025, Citi cardholders can link their Citi card to Apple Pay and use the Citi Flex Pay feature to spread out payments of $75 or more over 3+ months.

Our Take

This partnership is good news for Citi cardholders who prefer to pay with Apple Pay but want to spread out their payments. Cardholders can now use Citi Flex Pay to spread out payments of $75+ over three months without interest or fees while still earning Citi ThankYou Points.

Buy now and pay later programs are great ways to spread out costs when you don't have the funds upfront without incurring additional fees and interest. Apple Pay used to have its own buy now, pay later feature, but that was discontinued in 2024.

It seems the ability to use City Flex Pay with Apple Pay is a trial run from February to June 2025. Only time will tell if this feature is extended beyond June.
