With virtually all of our recent posts consisting of program updates, benefit changes, and status extensions (oh my!), it's getting a little hard to keep up. We thought it might make things easier to have a place where you can find all of the changes that major card-issuers have made in response to COVID-19.

If more changes are announced—and we can be sure that there will be—we will update this post to include them.

Chase

Extended Sign-Up Bonus Period

  • Chase cardmembers who applied between January 1, 2020 and March 31, 2020 will receive three additional months—six months total—to qualify for the sign-up bonus.
  • This applies to all Chase consumer and small business cards.
  • This extension was originally only offered on the first tier of a sign-up bonus. However, in early May, Chase expanded the extension to the second tier of bonuses for cards approved between October 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020.
  • For example, The World Of Hyatt Credit Card currently has a two-tiered sign-up bonus - 25,000 Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Plus an additional 25,000 Bonus Points after you spend a total of $6,000 on purchases within the first 6 months of account opening. The three-month extension will now apply to both the first tier and the second.

    • Thank you for this really comprehensive summary! Just one question: if I live abroad, may I apply to any of this cards?

      • Are you a US citizen? I live abroad and applying was no issue but I still have a US address and bank accounts. Keep in mind how long mail will take to get your card though. Our mail has basically stopped and I’ve been waiting on a card for near two months now. I need to call BoA and request a signup bonus extension.

    • Wow! Great compilation of info, very useful. I hope the card issuer execs see this and where they stand, relative to the competition.

      • I would guess the smart ones stay on top of blogging sites like this for market research and to learn of any “hacks” or loopholes that people discover (like the Amex gift card airline credit stuff that just got closed).

        • I am very confident they all do. Sites such as this are akin to free market research. And, quality market research can be very expensive. Here it is, almost in real-time, laid out before them for free. And, frequently, it’s better than what they can get from a focus group. In fact, now that I’m really processing that, AW should figure out a way to charge them for it, it’s that good. Seriously, AW. Figure out a way to package your market research with some true value added analysis and sell it to all of them.

    • What an excellent summary of benefit changes! This should be a very helpful reference page for people.

    • Brilliant summary. Thanks!

      • Great list! Thanks! Now I could really use some help deciding which card(s) would be best to use for grocery spend.

    • Thanks for the comprehensive overview of changes.

    • This is an incredible compilation of information. Thanks for your hard work on this.

    • Thank you for the compiled list!!!

    • My hat’s off – thanks, printed to read it at weekend and to think

    • Good work on bringing together all that information. It is certainly very comprehensive.

    • Really nice piece. Bookmarked for when I have more time. Thanks!

    • Credit Card Doubter says:

So, I just got off the phone with a manager for CITI Prestige. He indicated CITI had no extra incentives other than refund part of the fee AFTER it was posted. Had never heard of being able to use travel credit for groceries or restaurants. Who/what is your source on CITI Prestige benefits?

    • Harvey Kwan says:

      Super grateful for this guide!

    • Franco Piovan says:

Incredible useful information. Well done dividing changes from each card and their respective program. Thanks for your work.

    • Thank you for the list! It’s good to know all the changes. I’ve been eyeing the AA Citi personal card and mileup for some time now. It was at a lower welcome bonus and now see that you have it higher. Makes me wonder if I should hold out and see what other changes might be out there.

    • Question, the Hilton Aspire doesn’t mention that grocery spending must be at US grocery stores but every other Amex promotion does specify US locations. Is that true or a typo?

      • JT Genter says:

Thanks for the catch on that. I have updated to add “U.S.”.

The full terms for the Aspire are: “12X SUPERMARKET ACCELERATOR: You will earn 9 additional points on top of the 3 points you already earn (for a total of 12 points) from American Express for each dollar of eligible purchases charged on your Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card at supermarkets located in the U.S. (superstores and warehouse clubs are not considered supermarkets) starting from May 1, 2020 through July 31, 2020 (“Purchase Period”).”

        • Ugh, of course. I really dislike Amex and their US category limitations. I’m probably going to cancel the Aspire due to this.

    • THIS is why you guys are awesome! Thanks!!

    • For the CSR grocery and doordash bonuses, are the $1500 and $500 limits per month or during the entire period?

      • JT Genter says:

Total for the entire promotional period.

        • JT Genter says:

Actually, Chase just sent out an email to cardholders that the grocery bonus earning is “$1,500 total spend per calendar month May 1 – June 30, 2020”. This post has been updated to reflect this new clarification.

    • Awesome list! My head has been spinning trying to keep track and hopefully maximize all of these benefits! Kudos!

    • Robert B Stanton says:

Thank you! Incredible that neither the first person I spoke with nor the manager was aware of this. Nowhere to be found on the CITI Prestige website either which is why I called.

Thank you so much for providing those links for verification. Next step is to validate.

      • JT Genter says:

Citi can be quite frustrating in communicating some changes. I already have used my Citi Prestige at the grocery store to try to finish off my travel credit. So, I’m hoping that they have already coded the changes in!

        • TooManyCreditCards says:

This was an amazing compilation of information not to be found elsewhere. Thank you.

    • Thanks to the credit card companies for realizing that travel is at a minimum and changing the categories accordingly.

      • They definitely have gone above and beyond but I think they predict a lot of people canceling g cards if they don’t do something and I’d say they’re not wrong. On a related note, I think I’m canceling my Amex as their categories are severely limited to US spending. What a shame.

    • Jennifer says:

I would not file for the hardship issue and not pay the minimum. This means you have to pay a very high interest rate. If at all possible, I would not do this.

    • Lillian Dikovitsky says:

A very comprehensive list. Thank you.

    • Awesome list!

    • Super helpful list, thanks for compiling all of this together!

    • Thank you. Very comprehensive list of great offers. As usual American Airlines comes up short. As a 1 million miler with American I would tell you that it’s essentially useless. You basically can get all the million miler benefits by having an American Airlines credit card. Also, I’ve had an American Airlines credit card for three years and never received a companion ticket.

    • Michael Cleveland says:

excellent Summary. Maybe sometime put info like this in a downloadable Excel file?

      • JT Genter says:

Interesting idea! We are finishing up a deep dive in the grocery offers which will have a chart for those to re-sort as they wish. But I’m not sure how all of these other offers could cleanly fit into a spreadsheet.

    • Thank you for this! Used to hold 10-15 cards a while back but haven’t been in the loop for a few years. If there’s only 2 cards from the list you recommend, what would they be? Currently my main card is the Citi Premier.

    • Do these new benefits apply only to new cardholders? If you already have these cards, you don’t get the updated benefits?

    • Joe Widjaja says:

      Excellent posting!

I have a question on the World of Hyatt credit card. In order to get 10 qualifying free night for new sign-up, do I need to make minimum spending amounts on certain date ranges?

      Thank you.

      • As far as I can tell, you get the 10 night credits upon account approval if you apply before June 30th. I would confirm by calling Chase after you get approved, just to make sure.
