Enterprise is the largest car rental company in the U.S., with over 9,000 locations, including bases at more than 400 airports. The company also has a significant presence in Europe with multiple locations in Spain, the U.K., and beyond. Aside from passenger vehicles, Enterprise also has a large fleet of trucks and vans available for rent.

Enterprise Car Rentals has its own loyalty program, Enterprise Plus, where you earn and redeem points for car rentals. Like most programs, it has its own points expiration policy, so here is everything you need to know about whether Enterprise Plus points expire.

Do Enterprise Points Expire?

Your Enterprise Plus points will expire if you have no qualifying activity on your account for a period of 36 months, per the Enterprise Plus terms and conditions page.

“When a Member earns one (1) or more points for a Qualifying Rental, Enterprise will keep their points balance intact for the next thirty-six (36) months. Thereafter, the points balance will be forfeited.”

One thing to keep in mind is that once your Enterprise Plus points have expired, they cannot be reinstated.

What Is a Qualifying Rental?

Enterprise is particular about what it considers a qualifying rental to keep your points alive. Rentals must meet one of the following criteria to qualify:

  • A paid rental through Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the European Union, Latin America, the Caribbean, or Asia Pacific.
  • A paid rental with Enterprise Rent-A-Car or National Car Rental in the United States and Canada.
  • Award rentals with Enterprise or National also count as long as the rental includes one paid rental day.

The T&Cs are clear that bookings through a third-party app or online travel agent do not count as a qualifying rental. These rentals will not reset the expiration date of your Enterprise points. Here's the link to book directly with Enterprise or with National.

In addition to the above, the following are also excluded as qualifying rentals.

  • Rentals made at Enterprise CarShare locations.
  • Rentals that are booked as part of a tour or travel package.
  • Truck rental when using a commercial, government account number, or contracted rates.
  • Rentals of Exotic Car Collection by Enterprise locations.
  • A rental when a body shop, dealer, insurance company, or fleet replacement rates are applied, regardless of the payer.

Enterprise Plus Loyalty Program Benefits

Joining the Enterprise loyalty program is a good move even if you don't rent a car very often. Enterprise rewards are based on dollars spent, so the more you rent, the more you earn. While this program's earning structure isn't the most lucrative or creative, there is value in a simple rewards program that is easy to understand.

In addition to earning points you can use towards rentals with no blackout dates, loyal customers can rise through the elite-status ranks and earn perks like free upgrades, access to a dedicated customer-service phone number, and members-only check-in to get you on the road faster.

Our Take

Despite the limited options available to extend the validity of your points. The Enterprise Plus loyalty program is still worth a closer look and does deliver some value. The three-year expiration window is downright generous compared to other rental car loyalty programs — some of which have as short as a 12-month expiration window.
