Yes, EVA Air Infinity MileageLands miles do expire at the end of the month 36 months after they were earned. Per the EVA Air MileageLands mileage accrual terms and conditions page:
“Mileage earned by traveling, or through partners, will be retained for 36 months from travel date or from the application date for transfer of mileage from partner’s system. For example, miles credited for flight date 15 APR, 2020 will expire on 30 APR, 2023. The expired mileage will be automatically cancelled without notice.”
There is no way to extend the validity of your miles. And once expired, miles cannot be reinstated.
Boosting Your EVA Air Infinity MileageLands Balance
EVA Air is a partner with both Capital One and Citi ThankYou. Considering the limited life of Infinity MileageLands miles, you should be careful when transferring points to boost your mileage balance.
Capital One Venture miles transfer to EVA Air at a ratio of 2:1.5. So, for every 1,000 miles you transfer, you will receive 750 EVA Air Miles. The minimum transfer amount is 1,000 miles. Transfers typically take up to 1 day to be credited to your EVA Air Infinity MileageLands account.
You can transfer Citi ThankYou points to EVA Air at a better ratio than Capital One, with transfers occurring at a 1:1 ratio. Citi also requires a minimum transfer of 1,000 points. Citi transfers are instantaneous, so Citi ThankYou may be your best option if you need a quick top-up to snap up an available award.
Using EVA Air Miles
EVA Air awards tend to be expensive if you are looking for a straightforward award. However, there is still some value and excellent sweet spots to be had. One of the best uses of EVA Air miles is to book a Star Alliance round-the-world trip in business class. This will set you back 325,000 miles and can include 10 flight sectors and 7 stopovers. If you are strategic with your award, booking these awards can be of exceptional value.
The other great option for using EVA Air miles involves leveraging its generous routing rules to maximize the value of your award. Round trip awards within the same region allow 2 stopovers on the outbound leg and 1 stopover on the return leg, with a maximum of 6 flight sectors.
This can be excellent value in regions with lots of countries simple itinerary would be as follows:
- Brussels to Copenhagen with Brussels Airlines
- Copenhagen to Munich with SAS or Lufthansa
- Munich to Rome with Lufthansa
- Rome to Geneva with Swiss Air
- Geneva to Brussels with Swiss or Brussels Airlines
This entire trip in business class will set you back 55,000 miles plus taxes and fees.

36 months is on the higher end of expiration deadlines we have seen. However, EVA Air miles do expire without the option to extend them.
With awards being on the expensive side, it is worth some thought and planning on how to integrate EVA Air into your travel strategy. If you can maximize the program sweet spots, EVA Air may be worth your while and a great option to credit star alliance flights.
