If you're of a certain age, you might remember the old Entertainment coupon books that got you discounts on local restaurants and attractions. Well, Entertainment has joined the 21st century and now offers a digital version. And American Express cardholders can claim a free 6-month Entertainment membership now through January 31, 2023.

What is Entertainment?

Entertainment is an app with a monthly or annual membership where you can get 500,000+ coupons for over 40,000 local merchants across the US and Canada. Categories include dining, attractions, movies, shopping, travel, and more. The app claims that the average engaged user saves $250 a year, easily justifying the membership cost.

A monthly membership is only $2.99, and an annual membership is $24.99. There is no contract length, so you can cancel at any time.

Our Take

From what I can see, the Entertainment App is quite similar to Rakuten, the Honey extension, or even airline shopping portals. A savvy shopper will use the platform that gives them the best deals.

When it comes to restaurants and entertainment, coupons are always great. And it seems Entertainment is will be especially valuable for local merchants. There's no downside to taking advantage of this promotion. Just remember to cancel your membership after 6 months if you don't want to continue.

Unfortunately this isn’t apply to American Express card issued in Brazil.

  • I have had the book version of this and I just never really used this much. I think that someone who frequents name brand places a lot will get use. At least in the book it was large restaurants for quick eats. Maybe some local for dining in. I think I will stick with groupon or rakuten.
