Great news Hilton Amex cardholders! In 2021 and 2022, Hilton Honors announced that Weekend Night Reward certificates would be available to use any night of the week. Now, that change has been made permanent. Going forward, these certificates will be called Hilton Free Night Rewards.

Basics of Hilton Free Night Rewards

Weekend Night Rewards — now Free Night Rewards — are earned by higher-end Hilton Amex cardholders. Specifically, you can earn a free night certificate through any of the following Hilton Amex cards:

Best of all, Hilton doesn't cap the point value of free night certificates. Some Hilton free nights require as many as 150,000 Hilton Honors points, yet you can redeem a free night certificate for one of those nights. That makes these certificates great for staying at luxury destinations, such as Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts around the world.

For example, the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi requires 150,000 points. And you can book a free night there with Hilton Free Night Rewards — potentially saving thousands of dollars:

Hilton Weekend Night Rewards Become Free Night Rewards

For years, Hilton cardmembers could only redeem Weekend Night Rewards — as the name implied — on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights. In 2021 and 2022, Hilton Honors allowed these certificates to be redeemed on any night of the week. Now, that change is being made permanent, and certificates are being renamed to Free Night Rewards to reflect this.

Although Free Night Rewards can now be used on any night of the week, certificates are still only valid for standard room bookings. Premium rooms excluded. Also, a few dozen hotels and resorts don't accept these free night certificates.

Our Take

There are certainly ways to maximize your Free Night Rewards for a truly epic stay. By combining multiple certificates from more than one Hilton Amex card, you can really make the most of a stay at an awesome location.

Since Hilton doesn't cap Free Night Rewards, we recommended using the certificates at higher-level properties. Think Waldorf Astoria over Hampton. Check out our full guide on how to make the most of your Free Night Rewards.
