IHG One Rewards relaunched a familiar promotion that gives members up to 15,000 bonus American Airlines AAdvantage® miles on eligible stays at IHG through September 3, 2025. This time around, the offer is twice as good, giving members 2,000 bonus miles per stay — instead of just 1,000 bonus points in past promotions.

Here's what you need to know about this promotion and how to claim your bonus miles.

Earn up to 15,000 Bonus AAdvantage Miles on IHG Stays

A couple of times a year, IHG One Rewards has a promotion for members who choose to earn AAdvantage miles on their stays instead of IHG points. Through September 3, 2025, you can earn 2,000 bonus AAdvantage miles for each IHG stay of three or more consecutive nights. This offer has a limit of 15,000 bonus miles, which you would hit after eight stays (totaling at least 24 nights).

This promotion does not require registration. However, members must go to their IHG Preferences section, select “Airline Miles/Partner Points” in their Earning Preferences section, and then select “American Airlines AAdvantage” as their preferred airline program.

Bonus miles are in addition to base miles earned on IHG stays. When selecting American Airlines AAdvantage miles as the preferred reward, members earn 2X miles per dollar spent at all brands. The exceptions are Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites, where members earn 1 mile per dollar.

However, members can't double-dip on IHG earnings. You either earn IHG points or airline miles.

Our Take

This promotion targets IHG One Rewards members who prefer earning AAdvantage miles over IHG points. Even when valued conservatively, AAdvantage miles are generally worth more than IHG points, so this could be a solid offer if you’re looking to boost your mileage balance for future travel.

IHG seems to have caught on to how members value AAdvantage miles compared to IHG One Rewards points. Normally, IHG members earn 10X points per dollar on qualifying stays, and those points can be converted at a 10,000-to-2,000 ratio into AAdvantage miles. That works out to an effective 2X miles per dollar, and that’s before factoring in any other IHG bonus promotions.

For example, IHG’s current global promotion offers 8,000 bonus points every four nights. That’s equal to 1,600 AAdvantage miles if you choose to convert. Previously, the promotion only offered 1,000 bonus miles per stay. With this newer offer, the bonus of 2,000 miles per eligible stay brings the value roughly in line with what you’d earn by sticking with IHG One Rewards points.

In the end, whether this offer is right for you depends on how you personally value each currency.
