Heard of ITA Airways yet? Whether or not you know about this relatively new Italian airline, you might want to status match to ITA Volare — the airline's reward program. This status match runs now through September 15, 2022.
This is an interesting opportunity when you consider ITA Airways is in SkyTeam Alliance — along with Delta Air Lines, Aeromexico, Air France, KLM, and other more-familiar airlines.
Why Status Match to ITA Volare
ITA Airways effectively replaced Alitalia, the Italian airline that was in operation for 75 years. ITA is a flag-carrying, government-run airline currently flying to 52 destinations, including Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, and New York.
Like Alitalia before it, ITA Airways is in SkyTeam Alliance along with the following members:

As of now, there's not a lot of information about the ITA Volare program or the benefits you get as an elite member. The real benefit is an easy way to become a SkyTeam Elite member if you aren't one already.

You can status match from any of the following airlines to ITA Volare:

Note that you can NOT status match from another SkyTeam Alliance airline to ITA Volare.
How Do You Status Match to ITA Volare?
If you're interested in status matching to ITA Volare, you'll need to have a ticket booked with ITA Airways after August 2, 2022. Once you have that booked, follow these steps to status match to ITA Volare:
- Sign up for the ITA Volare rewards program if you haven't done so yet.
- Send an email from the address registered to the program to statusmatch@ita-airways.com.
- Put “Status Match 2022” into the subject line.
- Include your full name, “program of origin” and “status of origin”, Volare Frequent Flyer number, and ITA ticket number dated after August 2, 2022.
- Attach a legible copy of your current valid Frequent Flyer program card and a copy of your identity card.
- Submit your status match request by September 15, 2022.
The status match could take up to 60 days. If you don't hear back, it could be that you have sent incorrect information.

ITA Volare Award Chart
You can redeem ITA Volare points for the following:
- Domestic economy for as few as 2,300 points one-way
- Domestic business starts at 19,000 points each way
- International economy for as few as 3,600 points one-way
- International business from 32,300 points one-way
- Intercontinental economy for as few as 32,200 points one-way
- Intercontinental business from 195,000 points one-way
Our Take
Getting an elite status in SkyTeam Alliance isn't a bad idea. The only real requirement here — other than having elite status in a qualifying airline rewards program — is flying with ITA Airways after August 2, 2022. However, there's no stimulation on the status match for how long it will be valid for.
If you already have elite status in SkyTeam Alliance, there might not be any good reason to add ITA Volare elite status — unless you plan to make a lot of flights in Italy. Even then, new airlines are sometimes hit or miss until they find their footing.
