Update 1/9/2021: The deadline for Platinum Elite and higher members to select their 2020 Marriott Annual Choice Benefit has passed.
With the end of the year approaching, it's getting down to the wire for Marriott Platinum Elite and Titanium Elite members to choose their Annual Choice Benefits. If you've logged at least 50 Marriott qualifying nights this year, make sure you select your benefit before January 8, 2021!
Marriott Bonvoy Annual Choice Benefit
Marriott's top elite members have a lot going for them. Beyond the prospect of incredible suite upgrades, Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite, and Ambassador Elite members also get 4 pm late checkout, lounge access, and free breakfast at many brands.
One of the best perks is the ability to choose an Annual Choice Benefit after hitting 50 and 75 qualifying nights. That's because—unlike other elite benefits—members get to choose the perk the suits them the best.
For hitting 50 qualifying nights, members can choose from the following benefits:
- Add five Elite Night Credits to your 2020 total
- Save 40% on a bed from your favorite hotel brand
- Gift Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status to a family member, friend, or colleague
- $100 charity donation to WE
- Get five Suite Night Awards to redeem for upgrades to suites and premium rooms
After hitting 75 qualifying nights, members can choose an additional benefit from the list above, or:
- One Free Night Award worth up to 40,000 points
- Gift Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status to a family member or friend
For most Platinum Elite members, it's going to make the most sense to choose the Suite Night Awards. For Titanium Elite members, the Free Night Award is likely the best choice.
It's important to note that the Elite Night Credits are applied to your 2020 total. So, this only makes sense for Platinum Elites to choose if you're finishing the year with between 70-74 qualifying nights. That way you'll be bumped up to Titanium Elite and get another choice—in addition to better elite status for 2021. For Titanium Elite members, it only makes sense to opt for the Elite Night Credits if you already meet the $20,000 spending requirement for Ambassador Elite status.
These Annual Choice Benefits add to the value of Marriott elite status—particularly the Suite Night Awards and Free Night Award certificate. Unfortunately, there is a bit of a catch.
Annual Choice Benefit Deadline
If you've accumulated enough qualifying nights to earn an Annual Choice Benefit, you need to make a choice soon. That's because the deadline to choose benefits earned in 2020 is January 8, 2021.
If you somehow still manage to forget, this benefit isn't lost. Members who fail to choose by the deadline automatically receive the Suite Night Awards by default. So, Platinum Elite members who forget to choose their Annual Choice Benefits will receive five Suite Night Awards. Likewise, Titanium Elite members that fail to choose either benefit will get ten Suite Night Awards.
Just keep in mind that choices made—either by default or the member—are final and can't be changed.
If you've managed to earn enough Marriott qualifying nights to receive an Annual Choice Benefit, make sure you choose your preferred benefit by January 8, 2021. Otherwise, Marriott will automatically award Suite Night Awards to you.
