One of the many credits on The Platinum Card® from American Express is a $200 statement credit toward Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) stays booked through the American Express Travel portal.

Making the most out of this credit can be tricky. As you might expect from a luxury hotel booking platform, many Fine Hotels & Resorts stays aren't cheap. That makes it hard to utilize this credit without spending a ton on a hotel stay. Fortunately, a tool called MaxFHR makes it easier to find bookable locations and maximize your credit. Let’s explore this useful search tool!

What Is Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR)?

American Express offers a curated collection of luxury hotels called Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR), available to Card Members who book through the Amex Travel portal. If you have an eligible card — such as the Amex Platinum — you can access exclusive perks similar to those offered by hotel loyalty programs with elite status.

Some of the standard FHR benefits include:

  • Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout
  • Daily breakfast for up to two people
  • $100 experience credit to use on the property
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • 12 p.m. early check-in, when available
  • Room upgrade upon arrival, when available

Additionally, Amex Platinum Card Members receive an annual $200 credit when booking an FHR property. When searching via the American Express Travel portal, eligible hotels will be marked as part of the Fine Hotels & Resorts collection.

However, the Amex Travel portal also includes non-FHR hotels, which means finding eligible properties requires extra effort. That’s where MaxFHR comes in; it simplifies the search by displaying only FHR hotels.

How Does the MaxFHR Tool Work?

When you visit the MaxFHR website, you’ll find a list of available Fine Hotels & Resorts properties, along with details on special credits and booking availability. The default sorting displays properties from lowest to highest price.

But the real power of MaxFHR lies in its filtering options. You can narrow your search based on:

  • The location you wish to travel to.
  • The price range of the properties (minimum and/or maximum).
  • Available credits to use at properties such as Property, Food/Beverage, Spa, etc.
  • Special offers available.
  • Brand of hotel.

Example: Using MaxFHR To Book an FHR Hotel

Let’s say you’re planning a Las Vegas trip in April and want to book an FHR property while maximizing the $200 Amex Platinum credit. Instead of manually searching through the Amex Travel portal, you can simplify the process with MaxFHR.

The first step is to go to the MaxFHR website and type “Las Vegas” into the search bar. Click “Search,” and the tool will populate a list of available FHR properties in Las Vegas.

By default, the hotels are sorted by lowest to highest nightly rate, but you can adjust the sorting as you wish. In this case, the lowest price is $203 per night at The Palazzo at The Venetian.

If you’re looking for specific perks, such as a spa credit, food and beverage credit, or a particular hotel brand, use the filtering options on the left-hand side of the page.

For example, if you want a spa experience, select the “Spa Credit” filter to see only hotels that offer this benefit. If you prefer to stay at a specific property, such as The Wynn Las Vegas or The Venetian Resort, you can filter by brand.

Once you’ve identified a property that works for you, click on it to view available nightly rates and calendar pricing. MaxFHR will display rates for different dates, making it easy to spot the most cost-effective stay.

For instance, if you selected Wynn Las Vegas, you can scroll through the calendar to find the best pricing for April. You might see that certain weekdays offer significantly lower rates compared to weekends — allowing you to maximize your FHR credit while keeping your out-of-pocket costs down.

After selecting your preferred stay dates, click on the listing, and MaxFHR will redirect you to the Amex Travel portal. Here, you’ll confirm pricing, review the FHR benefits, and finalize your booking.

Since hotel pricing fluctuates, there may be slight differences between the rates listed on MaxFHR and those on the Amex Travel portal. The MaxFHR data updates frequently, but it may be a day or two behind real-time pricing.
