This Lufthansa buy miles promotion has ended. However, you can still buy Lufthansa miles here.

Lufthansa started selling mileage bundles called “Bundle & Go” for its Miles & More program late in 2022. The bundles come in four sizes: Extra Small, Small, Medium, and Large. From now until May 31, 2025, Lufthansa is offering a 30% bonus on these bundles. With this bonus, members can buy Lufthansa Miles & More miles for as little as 1.5¢ apiece. Even better, if you take advantage of this deal, you'll get a better 50% bonus on a miles purchase between June 5-15.

That makes now a great time for those looking to earn Lufthansa Miles & More miles — which are otherwise difficult to accumulate due to a lack of transfer partners. But should you buy Lufthansa miles during this promotion? Here's a look at when purchasing miles bundles could make sense.

Why It's So Hard to Accumulate Lufthansa Miles

Lufthansa Miles & More miles are some of the hardest miles to accumulate in the points and miles ecosystem.

Back in 2019, Lufthansa spoiled the party by suspending loyalty point transfers from partners like Marriott due to a new regulation regarding “e-money.” It also wasn't possible to buy Lufthansa miles at the time. Practically the only way to earn miles with Lufthansa Miles & More is by holding the Lufthansa Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard® or crediting flying activity to the program.

However, Lufthansa now sells miles as part of a bundle. These bundles include other perks like discounts on Priority Pass memberships and bonus miles when booking hotels and car rentals.

Buy Lufthansa Miles Packages With a 30% Bonus

Lufthansa currently offers four bundle options to buy miles — having recently added the “Extra Small” option over the last few promotions. Now through May 31, 2025, each bundle offers a 30% bonus. However, the per-mile cost decreases as you buy a larger bundle:

  • Extra Small bundle: 3,900 miles for $100 (2.56¢ per mile)
  • Small bundle: 13,000 miles for $280 (2.15¢ per mile)
  • Medium bundle: 65,000 miles for $1,120 (1.72¢ per mile)
  • Large bundle: 130,000 miles for $1,950 (1.5¢ per mile)

The cost per mile depends on the bundle size. The cheapest rate when paying in dollars is found when you buy 130,000 Lufthansa miles (including the bonus) for $1,950 — that's just 1.5¢ per mile. The standard prices for each bundle are the same as laid out above — the only difference is you receive 30% more miles for these standard prices.

How to buy Lufthansa miles

  2. Select one of the bundles (Extra Small, Small, Medium, or Large)
  3. After your purchase, you should receive an email receipt.
  4. The miles could take up to five business days to appear. However, I bought some miles during a similar promotion, and mine showed up instantly — albeit in two transactions.

Redeeming Lufthansa Miles & More Miles

Lufthansa Miles & More miles are worth pursuing because of how valuable they are. For example, Miles & More Mileage Bargains routinely offer round-trip awards to Europe for 55,000 miles in business class — at least for now.

However, the ability to use this buy Miles & More miles promotion to book Lufthansa first class is even more appealing.

Using Miles & More miles to book Lufthansa first class

Booking Lufthansa first class is an aspirational award redemption due to how hard it is to book. Other airline loyalty programs charge anywhere from 100,000 Aeroplan points to 120,000 LifeMiles (after a recent LifeMiles devaluation) up to 154,000 United MileagePlus miles (after a recent United devaluation) each way with modest fees. However, Lufthansa doesn’t typically release first-class award availability to partner airlines more than a few days before departure.

I’ve been able to fly Lufthansa first class three times. I booked via Air Canada Aeroplan twice and once with Avianca LifeMiles. I've always found availability (knock on wood) days before departure — which required several stressful hours on the phone.

However, using Miles & More miles takes the stress out of this booking process. Lufthansa lets its Miles & More members book Lufthansa first-class awards up to 360 days out. That's perfect for a big aspirational trip like a honeymoon — or just because.

The catch: Miles & More surcharges can be very high. However, there's a way you can avoid paying these fees, even when booking through Miles & More.

Book First Flex Plus to reduce Lufthansa first-class surcharges

Lufthansa has an option to avoid paying high surcharges. Paying an additional 24,000 miles on routes to/from the U.S. nearly eliminates the out-of-pocket costs.

For example, we've found a flight from Chicago (ORD) to Frankfurt (FRA), where travelers can pay either:

  • First Flex: 91,000 miles + $926.70
  • First Flex Plus: 115,000 miles + $10.10.

ORD to FRA on Lufthansa First class via Miles and More, and you can buy miles to book this award

Redeeming an additional 24,000 miles saves you $916.60 — netting a rate of 3.8¢ per mile. That's pretty good when you can buy Lufthansa miles at 1.5¢ each!

The one-way cost of this flight averages about $14,000, so choosing the First Flex Plus rate would yield roughly a 12¢-per-mile redemption. The First Flex rate (after factoring in the higher taxes) would yield over 14¢ per mile.

Choosing Which Bundle(s) to Purchase

While the First Flex rate could give you more value, the true value comes in purchasing the right number of miles. But because you can't purchase exact number for a redemption, it's important to buy an allotment of miles you'll redeem without leaving significant leftovers.

Let’s look at an example where you’d like to buy enough miles for a one-way trip in Lufthansa first class (or two one-way trips) between the U.S. and Germany.

Buying a large bundle for a one-way booking

One way of getting enough miles to buy a one-way Lufthansa First Flex award ticket would be to purchase one Large Bundle for $1,950. Just this bundle would give you enough miles — plus 25,000 miles left over.

Buy Miles & More Miles for SWISS First Class

Another niche redemption I found searching Lufthansa’s award calendar was SWISS first class. SWISS first class is another aspirational award redemption because it's typically blocked, allowing award redemption only for its Miles & More elites.

I found routes via Zurich (ZRH) with the Zurich to U.S. segment on SWISS. This example shows a flight from Frankfurt (FRA) to New York (JFK) via Zurich (ZRH) for either 91,000 miles + $350 in taxes for First Flex or 115,000 miles + $130 in taxes for First Flex Plus.

Book Swiss First Class via Miles & More, and you can buy miles to book this award

A nice scenario would be flying from the U.S. to Munich on Lufthansa’s new first-class product — which debuted late last year — and returning from Frankfurt. This way, you can experience Lufthansa's impressive First Class Terminal before departure. When you connect in Zurich, you should check out the SWISS First Lounge before arriving back in the United States via SWISS first class.

The ground experience at the Lufthansa First Class Terminal is truly exceptional, so I'd recommend departing or connecting through Frankfurt. You won't experience this if Frankfurt is your final destination — unless you're a HON Circle Member.

Lufthansa Buy Miles History

While not a long history, we have enough of a track record from Lufthansa now to understand what to expect from them when it comes to buy-miles promotions.

This current promotion to grab points for just 1.5¢ apiece falls somewhere in the middle of what's been on offer from Lufthansa. So, if you're looking to grab some Miles & More miles, now might be a good time to do so:

Maximize Your Purchase

Unfortunately, these purchases won't count as an airfare or travel purchase on your credit card. That's because Lufthansa sells miles through Points.com. Thus, you should use one of these credit cards to pay:

Bottom Line

Lufthansa has been selling mileage bundles for a while now, so we know what to expect. Because you can't buy the exact amount of miles for a redemption, you're often left with a surplus of miles you might never need. The recently added Extra Small Bundle option might help you trim down the leftovers.

The excitement surrounding these miles bundles has grown; to keep that going, Lufthansa is offering a 30% bonus. But you must act fast, as this promotion is only around until 11:59 p.m CET on May 31, 2025. If you maximize this deal, you can grab Lufthansa Miles & More miles for as little as 1.5¢ each. With this promotion, you could snag enough miles for a one-way Lufthansa first-class ticket for $1,950 plus $10 in taxes and fees.

Keep in mind that it's possible to book a first-class ticket on Lufthansa with fewer points and fees through other Star Alliance partners. However, booking through the Miles & More program has the added benefit of allowing you to book your trip up to 360 days in advance. This promotion is an excellent option for those who plan their travels well in advance. While buying the needed miles isn't “cheap,” it's definitely cheaper than buying the ticket outright.

Will you be buying Lufthansa Miles & More miles bundles at a per-mile rate as little as 1.5¢ each?
