One of the best aspects of Avios is that you can freely transfer Avios between airline programs that use the currency. This functionality allows you to combine your rewards into one account and redeem them with the program of your choice. Finnair recently adopted Avios and is rolling out a transfer facility, starting with British Airways Executive Club.
Starting today, you can convert Finnair Plus Avios to British Airways Avios and vice versa.
Transfer Avios Between British Airways Executive Club and Finnair Plus
Finnair is the fifth airline to utilize Avios as its point currency, joining Iberia, Qatar Airways, Aer Lingus, and British Airways. This adoption came as Finnair enhanced its Plus loyalty program earlier this year.
Finnair's program changes have pros and cons, but we'll focus on one that we'll mark as a pro: Transferring Avios between airlines.
The Helsinki-based airline is rolling out transfer capabilities, starting with British Airways Executive Club. As of today, you can link your Finnair Plus account to your British Airways Executive Club account and freely transfer Avios at a 1:1 ratio.
Finnair will likely introduce additional transfer options over time. This could mean allowing Finnair Plus members to link directly to Qatar Airways Privilege Club. But for now, you can only move Avios seamlessly between British Airways and Finnair.

While it might take a few extra steps, you can transfer the Finnair Plus Avios you've moved to Executive Club onward to Iberia Plus or Qatar Airways Privilege Club. In other words, your Finnair Avios aren't stuck at British Airways.
This new transfer option is important because no two Avios airlines feature identical award charts. Sure, you'll find price harmonization on some routes, but occasionally, the published rates for awards may vary. Peak and off-peak dates might vary, too. Thus, if you've got Avios to redeem, it's worth shopping around for the best price and consolidating your points in one account to make a redemption.
Moreover, this makes Avios-earning credit cards like the British Airways Visa Signature® Card more valuable. As savvy award travelers know, there are several ways to earn Avios and now even more ways to redeem them.

Final Thoughts
The Finnair Plus program has undergone a lot of change. One result is the adoption of Avios, which you can now freely transfer to and from Finnair to British Airways Executive Club. That's a big deal, as it gives Avios collectors even more redemption options and another point of comparison to get the best price on your future award tickets.
