United has launched a one-day flash sale, offering 20% off economy class saver MileagePlus awards to Hawaii. You'll need to book by March 14, 2018, 11:59 pm CDT to take advantage of the discount. We haven't found a page on United's site describing the sale, so you'll need to go to United.com and search to see if you receive a discount
Flash Sale Terms
- Must purchase tickets by 11:59 pm on March 14, 2018
- Eligible travel dates are April 8, 2018, through May 20, 2018
- 20% discount applicable to economy class saver awards
- Round-trip travel required
- Discounted fares will price at 36,000 miles round-trip, down from the standard 45,000 miles required for a round-trip saver economy award.

Our Take
Keep in mind; you can fly the same United flights with Singapore KrisFlyer miles for 35,000 miles; 1,000 less than with United. However, if you're sitting on a pile of United miles, this isn't a bad deal. The 35,000 mile-price with Singapore isn't a sale price; it is their everyday price if you see saver awards with United.
If you have premier status with United or hold the United co-branded credit card, where you receive additional saver award space, you'll be better off redeeming United miles as Singapore wouldn't have access to that extra award inventory.
Regardless, if you're looking to get to Hawaii and these dates make sense, 36,000 miles isn't a bad deal at all.

That was quite a nice deal. Hopefully it will come around again.
I caught this one – nice price – thank you!
Hawaii!!!!! I cannot wait. I have already bought a ticket for this time but oh well. At least I’ll earn miles. let’s go enjoy beach time!
@mtlfire – thanks for the tip! I didn’t know that. Will check it out
Other than using miles, sometimes a quick detour through Canada allows for a business class fare that is about the same price as an economy fare to HNL (for those close to a Canadian airport)
Didn’t know this blog existed until now. Wish I would have seen this deal yesterday so I maybe have taken advantage!
I’m planning on taking the pacific island hopper soon. Not sure this would save me much by booking tickets separately.
Quite nice, but there are a few revenue ticket deals to Hawaii at the moment.
Intrigued by the strategy behind such seemingly unadvertised sales. Are they actually selectively releasing to certain outlets and tracking impact? Are they feeding/cultivating the points chasing community? Like it, but intrigued.
If you figure it out let us know. We don’t get it.
Not a bad deal. Why can’t American match this? 🙁
great deal!!
Is this limited to only certain members of Mileage Plus?
Not as we see it. Everyone appears to be eligible.
How do you find these deals if they are not published on their site?
We read other blogs, forums, sites, and scour ourselves.
Haven’t been to HI since last March so I’m obviously overdue. This is a good opportunity for me! Aloha!
Man where’s that Southwest flight! 🙂
*maybe* this year?
My wife and I have burned almost all of our United miles the past year. We are not earning many miles flying basic economy.
Wish I had some united miles right about now.
great deal for burning off those UAL miles! Thanks!
Not exceptional discount but interesting anyway.
