The U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card is a solid choice for anyone looking to earn rewards from shopping without the fuss of complex rewards redemptions. And those earnings can easily be cashed out as a statement credit or a deposit into your bank account.

This card is notable for its 6% cash back category at select retailers, including Amazon, Disney, Home Depot, Target, and Walmart. Just note that this earning category is capped at $1,500 each quarter.

U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Visa Earning Rates

As you spend on the card, you will earn:

  • 6% cash back on your first $1,500 in combined eligible purchases each quarter with two retailers you choose
  • 3% cash back on your first $1,500 in eligible purchases on your choice of one everyday category (like wholesale clubs, gas and EV charging stations, bills, and utilities)

Eligible Retailers for 6% Cashback Category

The 6% cash back category of the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Visa is extremely valuable if you regularly shop at any of the listed retailers below:

  • Ace Hardware
  • Apple
  • Amazon.com
  • Anthropologie
  • Bed, Bath, & Beyond
  • Best Buy
  • Chewy.com
  • Crate & Barrel
  • Disney
  • Home Depot
  • Ikea
  • Kohl's
  • Lowe's
  • Lululemon
  • Macy's
  • Menards
  • Nordstrom
  • Pottery Barn
  • QVC
  • Restoration Hardware
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Wayfair.com
  • Williams Sonoma

This 6% earning rate is more than what you can earn with each retailer's own credit card product. For example, the Amazon Visa earns 5% back on Amazon.com purchases — with rewards only redeemable for Amazon purchases. Meanwhile, the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Visa earns 6% cashback on purchases at Amazon and one of the dozens of other eligible retailers.

Just keep in mind that this 6% earning rate is capped at $1,500 in eligible spending per quarter. That makes it similar to the Chase Freedom Flex℠ rotating quarterly categories — except that you get to pick the merchants you want with the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Visa.

Other U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Visa Benefits

The primary benefit of the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Visa is the high earning rates. But, the card also has a few helpful benefits for consumers.

Extended payment options

Formally called U.S. Bank ExtendPay Plan, qualifying purchases are able to be stretched over months to help ease the burden of large purchases.

While U.S. Bank doesn't charge interest per se, there are applicable fees. U.S. Bank charges a monthly fee “not to exceed 1.6% of the original principal amount.” That means that you'll need to pay no more than $16 per month on a $1,000 purchase when you enable ExtendPay. While that might not sound like much, it's a pretty high effective interest rate.

Note: If you need payment flexibility with no interest or fees, you may consider applying for a 0% introductory APR credit card like the Wells Fargo Reflect® Card.

Waived Annual Fee for the First Year

You will have no annual fee the first year, followed by a modest $95 (waived for the first year) annual fee every year after.

Contactless Card

Although contactless cards are becoming commonplace, this card has a rather unique contactless payment feature: The card lights up when you make a contactless purchase.

Visa Signature Benefits

This includes extended warranty protection, rental car insurance, lost luggage reimbursement, Global Entry enrollment credit, airport lounge access, cell phone insurance, roadside assistance, and travel/emergency assistance — among other valuable benefits.

U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Visa Redemption Options

When you earn cash back on the card, you have an array of options to redeem your rewards. You can get your cash back as a statement credit, a rewards card, merchant gift cards, or deposited into your U.S. Bank account.

Real-Time Rewards

One of the largest complaints about credit card rewards is the inability to use them immediately. With U.S. Bank Real-Time Rewards, you can do exactly that.

Let's say you visit your local coffee shop and make a $5 purchase. After the purchase, you will receive a text directly to your phone asking if you want to use your earned rewards towards the purchase. All you need to do from there is text the word “REDEEM” back, and your rewards will offset the purchase.

Redeem Through the Rewards Center

You can also use your rewards through the U.S. Bank Rewards Center, where you can redeem your cash back for gift cards, travel, and other merchandise.

Application Restrictions

When it comes to its U.S. Bank Altitude™ Reserve Visa Infinite® Card, U.S. Bank has a strict rule that you must have a prior banking relationship. However, outside of that card, you're able to have as many U.S. Bank cards as you'd like.

However, some have reported online that approval odds go up when you have a prior banking relationship.

Final Thoughts

The U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Visa is a great cash-back credit card for someone who wishes to maximize their shopping expenses and earn rewards that are simple to redeem.

Just note that this card is certainly a shopping card — not a travel rewards card. You'll earn cashback that can't be redeemed for outsized value. Plus, this card has foreign transaction fees, so be sure not to use this card if you're traveling overseas.

  • My issue with this card is that many of these stores offer cards that offer 5% cash back on their own store cards — which often offer better benefits within their brand. This offers 6%, but after the first year, that 1% may be eaten up by the $95/year fee, depending on how much you spend….. just something to consider.

    For instance:
    – Target Red Card – 5% back and free 2-day shipping, extended returns
    – IKEA Family program (no card needed) 5% back
    – Williams Sonoma &, Pottery Barn -5% cash back, free standard shipping
