Recently, Discover sent out a targeted email to some of their customers offering them a $20 refund for paying two cell phone bills before the end of September 2019. Unless you have another card which will give you a better reward, this is some easy cash for anyone with a Discover Card.

Key Terms

  • Pay two consecutive cell phone bills with your Discover card to earn a $20 statement credit
  • The second payment must post to your account before September 30th
  • This offer may be limited to those who received an email about the promotion

Not Everyone Will Benefit

This deal is only good if you don't have another card with a better option, or perhaps if you have a very large phone bill (such as a family plan) that will yield better rewards elsewhere. The refund is equivalent to a 10% return if your phone bill is $100 a month, or 5% if your bill is $200 a month. If another credit card is giving you a better reward, this deal probably isn't for you. And, obviously, you need to have a Discover Card to take advantage of this refund.

Some credit cards offer protection for your phone when you pay your bill with them, so this would also have to be taken into consideration. But if it's not too much hassle, why not pay with Discover for a couple months? After all, an extra $20 to spend elsewhere is always nice.

How to Get the Refund

In order to get the $20 refund, simply pay your phone bill for two consecutive months before September 30th. As long as the second payment goes through by that date, Discover will give you a $20 credit to your account. To be clear, you have to make two payments to your phone company. After that, you can go back to your regular payment methods.

Of course, if you're already using your Discover Card to pay your phone bill, you shouldn't have any problem getting this refund. You might have even received an email notifying you of this opportunity. But if not, take advantage of this deal today, and claim your $20 refund!
