Recently, Discover sent out a targeted email to some of their customers offering them a $20 refund for paying two cell phone bills before the end of September 2019. Unless you have another card which will give you a better reward, this is some easy cash for anyone with a Discover Card.
Key Terms
- Pay two consecutive cell phone bills with your Discover card to earn a $20 statement credit
- The second payment must post to your account before September 30th
- This offer may be limited to those who received an email about the promotion
Not Everyone Will Benefit
This deal is only good if you don't have another card with a better option, or perhaps if you have a very large phone bill (such as a family plan) that will yield better rewards elsewhere. The refund is equivalent to a 10% return if your phone bill is $100 a month, or 5% if your bill is $200 a month. If another credit card is giving you a better reward, this deal probably isn't for you. And, obviously, you need to have a Discover Card to take advantage of this refund.
Some credit cards offer protection for your phone when you pay your bill with them, so this would also have to be taken into consideration. But if it's not too much hassle, why not pay with Discover for a couple months? After all, an extra $20 to spend elsewhere is always nice.
How to Get the Refund
In order to get the $20 refund, simply pay your phone bill for two consecutive months before September 30th. As long as the second payment goes through by that date, Discover will give you a $20 credit to your account. To be clear, you have to make two payments to your phone company. After that, you can go back to your regular payment methods.
Of course, if you're already using your Discover Card to pay your phone bill, you shouldn't have any problem getting this refund. You might have even received an email notifying you of this opportunity. But if not, take advantage of this deal today, and claim your $20 refund!

I’m never targeted for this kind of stuff and I have Discover, Chase, and Amex. I just get random offers I’d never use.
too bad it is targeted
I have a Discover Card that I use regularly, I like the card but as of yet haven’t received that offer. I will watch for it, thank you!
Awesome! I did not know about this promotion. I am going to save $20 all thanks to this post.
Any one know whether Google Fi qualifies as wireless provider for this promo purpose?
Thanks for the heads up. Will see if I qualify.
Thanks for the heads up. Will be checking to see if I qualify.
Passing on this one because I pay with another card that offers cell phone protection. Thanks, though!
Yes, folks certainly need to evaluate which is more valuable to them – the credit or the protection. Protection could be worth a whole lot more. Thanks for the heads up.
Anytime I can get a refund on my phone bill I am all for it
Can I just pay $1 each month and get the rebate? Whats the minimum amount per month?
The T&C don’t seem clear on this. I would guess there might be an exclusion for very small amounts. It seems you need to pay your full bill, but it isn’t clear how this would be enforced. Please let us know what you learn.
Easily done. I’m already using my Discover Card to pay my phone bill. Getting this rebate will be nice.
