American has added tons of new dates and destinations to the ongoing Economy Web Specials award sale. Since we first posted about this last week, we've seen 20K round trips to Hawaii and even 10K round-trip awards to New Zealand and Australia. While the specifics are changing by the hour, the deal is still thriving. We're seeing a surge in new destinations and dates —many of which are available through the end of the current schedule in October 2020.

These offers typically haven't lasted long, so you don't want to wait around to book your next flights. If you have a few AAdvantage miles that are burning a hole in your pocket, you need to get over to American Airlines and start searching for WebsAAver Specials immediately!

While both AA and United have been switching over to dynamic award pricing, they both still have some semblance of their old award charts. Standard saver-level pricing for a domestic one-way economy ticket is 12,500 miles.

However, you can now select “Economy Web Special,” which may save you a bundle of miles.

While these tickets are cheaper, you'll also want to be careful, because these awards come with added restrictions.

Once you've determined you can live with that, you may continue your search. Of course, many of these flights won't be the most direct routing; some routes will have multiple connections, and layovers may be longer than normal. But with a discount as high as 60%, many will find the tradeoff well worth the extra travel time.

Not always the easiest to locate

When viewing the results, American “conveniently” doesn't have an option to sort by award price, so you may need to scroll through multiple pages of itineraries to locate the Web Special Pricing. Be aware that AA.com also displays results for nearby airports, so make sure you verify all the details before confirming a ticket. It's easy to search for LAX and find you're flying out of Long Beach Municipal.

Even trips to Hawaii, which are typically priced at 22,500 miles each way can be located at a nice discount. Last week, there were Hawaii flights as low as 10K each way. In our most recent search, 15K seemed to be the minimum, but there are many, many possibilities that we didn't have time to investigate.

Think that these are only from the West Coast? Guess again! You can find them from the East Coast too! How about 15K each way from the DC area? There are multiple 15K options from DCA, IAD, and BWI!

Terms & Conditions

American includes the following details on their website (emphasis mine):

Available exclusively on aa.com, Economy Web Special awards may be offered on select flights and dates for fewer miles than either the AAnytime or MileSAAver award level for travel in the Main Cabin. Mileage levels vary by date and flight. When available, you’ll see the applicable award level while booking your trip.

Tickets that include an Economy Web Special award don’t allow changes, and – while you can cancel and reinstate your miles – fees may apply. Reinstatement fees are waived for Executive Platinum members.

Our Take

What makes these really incredible is that the discounts aren't limited to off-peak travel months. We found plenty of options through the end of the schedule—allowing you to fly as late as October, 2020! If you wish to take advantage of these offers, flexibility is the key. Saturday to Saturday may not work. Wednesday to Wednesday may!

Don't forget, AA allows you to hold an award for up to 5 days at no cost. If you think there is even a chance you might want to book an award, it's better to put it on hold to make sure someone else doesn't beat you to the punch. Likewise, if you do miss out on a ticket because it took too long to pull the trigger, keep checking back. Other travelers may have put the seats on hold speculatively, and if they don't confirm their reservation, you may find seats back in circulation after a few days.
