Back in November 2025, we reported that Chase and Hyatt had plans to deepen their partnership with new Hyatt credit card(s), more Hyatt properties available through The Edit, and the opportunity to earn World of Hyatt Explorist status with Sapphire Reserve-branded cards.
Although we don't know anything about new credit cards (yet), we're happy to share that cardholders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve® (Rates & Fees) and Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ (Rates & Fees) can now earn Explorist status by meeting an annual spending requirement.
Here are the perks you'll earn when you meet a spending threshold on your Sapphire Reserve cards, and why you might consider doing so.
Earn Additional Perks on Your Sapphire Reserve Card
The Sapphire Reserve already comes with a ton of perks to justify the hefty $795 annual fee. Cardholders enjoy a flexible $300 annual travel credit, up to $500 in credits for stays with The Edit, up to $300 in dining credits, up to $300 in StubHub credits, IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite Status, and much, much more.

Should You Spend Just to Unlock These Benefits?
You should never spend more than you can afford just to earn statement credits or elite status. If you can't comfortably put $75,000 on your personal card — or $120,000 on your business card — without overspending, carrying a balance and/or accruing interest, then you shouldn't try to unlock these benefits.

However, if you already put more than $75,000 on credit cards each year, it could be worth prioritizing your Sapphire Reserve over other cards in your wallet.
If you occasionally stay at hotels — but not enough to earn status organically — having top-tier IHG Diamond elite status and mid-tier World of Hyatt Explorist status can elevate your experience. You might qualify for room upgrades, welcome amenities, discounted award nights, and more. The Southwest A-list status and Chase Travel credit are nice, but only if you fly with Southwest frequently.
Before putting all of your spending on your Sapphire Reserve card, analyze whether the opportunity to achieve status and statement credits is worth any value that might be lost by not using a different card.
For instance, the Sapphire Reserve earns just 1X Ultimate Rewards points on non-bonus category spending, while the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card earns 2X miles on all purchases. When you're spending tens of thousands of dollars on a credit card, those lost rewards can quickly add up.

Bottom Line
For those who can organically spend $75,000 (or $120,000) on one card in a calendar year, Chase offers a great opportunity to earn top-tier elite status with IHG, mid-tier elite status with Hyatt and Southwest, and up to $1,000 in statement credits.
However, these perks might not be lucrative enough to sacrifice a higher return on purchases with a different card. Before overspending on your Sapphire Reserve-branded cards, make sure the benefits are worth it. And remember — never spend more than you can afford just to receive bonus perks.
