Wells Fargo Autograph Journey: 60,000-Point Offer

The Autograph Journey doesn’t get the attention it deserves, and that’s largely because its welcome offer hasn’t changed since the card first launched in March 2024. Still, if you’re strategic about how you redeem your Wells Fargo Rewards points, there's plenty to like about the current offer.

Here’s the full text of the welcome bonus: Earn 60,000 bonus points when you spend $4,000 in purchases in the first 3 months – that’s $600 toward your next trip.

Don't let those last few words fool you, though. It’s easy to get well over a cent per point in value from your Wells Fargo Rewards points.

What are Wells Fargo Rewards points worth?

There are lots of ways to redeem Wells Fargo Rewards points, but most options yield just one cent per point. That includes using points for statement credits toward eligible purchases, cash deposits into a checking account, and more. While those redemptions can make sense in some cases, the key to maximizing the value of points earned with the Autograph Journey is transferring them to one of the seven Wells Fargo transfer partners.

On average, AwardWallet users redeem Wells Fargo points for 2.71¢ apiece. So, transferring to partners is how you turn a welcome bonus that Wells Fargo values at “$600 toward your next trip” into something worth nearly three times that amount.

That said, you’ll need to be strategic about how you redeem your points to see value like this. Wells Fargo doesn’t have a huge list of partners, so it’s worth exploring your redemption options before applying for the card. As a refresher, here’s the full list of Wells Fargo transfer partners:

Why Get the Autograph Journey?

The Autograph Journey is a mid-tier travel rewards card with a $95 annual fee. It's comparable to the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (Rates & Fees) and Citi Strata Premier® Card (Rates & Fees), but there’s a strong case to be made that it can edge out both of those cards.

Here's what the Autograph Journey offers.

Headline benefit

The Autograph Journey has one “headline” benefit. It's a $50 statement credit you’ll earn after spending $50 or more on airfare each cardholder year. The credit is available as soon as you open the card and renews each year after the billing cycle in which your annual fee posts.

Based on the math alone, this credit can easily cut the card’s $95 annual fee roughly in half each year.

Earning rates

One of the things we like most about the Autograph Journey is its earning potential. It’s a travel rewards card, plain and simple.

  • 5X points per $1 spent on hotels
  • 4X points per $1 spent on airlines
  • 3X points per $1 spent on other travel and restaurants
  • 1X points per $1 spent on other purchases

If you happen to have other Wells Fargo cards that earn points, like the Wells Fargo Autograph® Card (Rates & Fees), or a cash-back card such as the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card (Rates & Fees), you can combine those rewards with the points earned on the Autograph Journey and then transfer them to partner programs.

It makes a lot of sense to pair the Autograph Journey with another Wells Fargo product. That way you never earn less than 2% cash back (or 2X points) on any purchase.

Under-the-hood benefits

The Autograph Journey also comes with a solid set of under-the-hood benefits. From this list of perks, it’s pretty obvious that it’s a great card to use when booking travel — and one worth packing for trips both near and far.

  • Cell phone protection: Receive up to $1,000 to cover damaged or stolen cell phones when you pay your monthly bill with the card. There is a $25 deductible per claim, and you can file two claims within a 12-month period.
  • Travel accident insurance: Receive travel accident insurance worth up to $1,000,000 when you purchase your airline or other common travel ticket with your card.
  • Lost baggage reimbursement: Receive up to $3,000 in luggage reimbursement per trip if your bags are lost due to theft or misplacement by your travel carrier during a trip.
  • Trip cancellation and interruption protection: Get reimbursed up to $15,000 for lodging, flights, and activities if you use your card to pay and your trip is canceled for a covered reason.
  • Auto rental collision damage waiver: Pay for rental cars using your card and get reimbursed for covered damage or theft. The coverage is secondary for rentals within the U.S. and primary for rentals outside the U.S. The following countries are excluded from this coverage: Israel, Jamaica, the Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland.
  • No foreign transaction fees.

Autograph Journey Application Rules and Restrictions

If you’re thinking about applying for the Autograph Journey, keep in mind that Wells Fargo’s credit card application rules can be a bit strict. In the Autograph Journey application terms, you’ll find the following clause:

“If you opened a Wells Fargo Credit Card account within the last six months, then you may not qualify to open an additional Wells Fargo Credit Card account.”

Wells Fargo is also known to limit customers to earning one new welcome bonus every 15 months. On top of that, the bank often considers your overall relationship when evaluating new card applications, so having a checking or savings account with Wells Fargo could potentially improve your chances of approval.

Bottom Line

The Autograph Journey is a well-rounded travel rewards card with a solid welcome offer and a respectable lineup of transfer partners. It doesn’t get as much attention as other mid-tier cards, partly because those cards often come with flashier welcome bonuses or a longer list of partners. The Autograph Journey doesn’t have that comprehensive of an offer history — or quite as many partners — but it makes up for it in other ways.

For instance, it’s easy to fall in love with the Autograph Journey’s earning rates, make use of its annual $50 statement credit on airline purchases, and get excellent value out of its welcome bonus. If you’re over 5/24 — or not particularly impressed with the earning rates and benefits of similar rewards cards — you really can’t go wrong with the Autograph Journey.
