Delta launched a promotion giving you 5x Skymiles per $1 spent on eligible car rentals and hotel bookings. The offer is very similar to the recently expired promotion offering bonus MQDs on the same purchases. However, like the earlier offer, you must book through specific links to earn the 5x rate. The bonus miles promotion is valid for bookings made through July 6, 2023 and for travel through September 4, 2023.

Also, the story does not end there. You can rapidly boost your Delta SkyMiles by transferring American Express Membership Rewards points. Points transfer at a 1:1 ratio with a minimum transfer of 1,000 points. Transfers are immediate, making it a great option if you need to boost your balance quickly to secure an award.

Does This Promotion Qualify for Delta Medallion Status?

In short, no. At first launch, the verbiage was confusing:

“Miles earned under this offer will count toward Medallion Status. Miles awarded are bonus miles and do not count towards Medallion Qualification Miles or Million Miler Status.”

However, we reached out to Delta, and a spokesperson confirmed that this was a mistake. The terms now say:

“Miles earned under this offer will count toward Medallion Status. Miles awarded are bonus miles and do not count towards Medallion Qualification Miles or Million Miler Status.”

Our Take

Any opportunity to boost your mileage earning is welcome news. However, you have to be careful with these types of promotions. Before committing to a booking, double-check the pricing and whether it is competitive. Sure, earning 5x is a great deal, but if you are paying a higher price on this site than another one, it is not that good.

Like many promotions with some due diligence, this offer can be very lucrative. However, you may decide to pass on it if the value is not there for you. You also should consider your hotel status and its importance. Bookings through portals like these typically don't count as qualifying nights in your favorite loyalty program, and the hotel typically won't recognize your elite status (if any). For flights, however, you will still earn segment credits and award miles from flying.
