United just relaunched its Mile Play promotion, which lets you earn bonus miles by completing personalized tasks. These offers are usually based on your recent flying history with United. So, if you haven’t flown much lately, you might receive a more generous offer as the airline tries to win you back.

Mile Play promotions are targeted. That means you'll need to log in with your United MileagePlus number to see what tasks you've been assigned. Just keep in mind that not everyone will be targeted, and the offers can vary widely. Some are great, some are underwhelming, and some members may not get an offer at all.

Example United Mile Play Promotions

The goals for Mile Play promotions vary by United MileagePlus account. Typically, you'll see something like “Book and take a trip X time(s) to earn XX bonus miles.” Each offer is tailored based on your recent travel history with United. And you can check yours by clicking here.

Here are a few examples from the AwardWallet team. The details vary, including the number of trips, spending requirements, and bonus amounts, but the format is generally the same.

This time, the best offer we found required booking and completing one trip of at least $100. Doing so would result in a grand price of 3,000 miles.

Another offer required one trip costing a minimum of $175. Complete it, and you’ll earn 2,500 bonus miles.

And another United Silver elite on our team wasn't targeted with anything at all. Well, bummer.

United Mile Play fine print

The specific terms and conditions are listed at the bottom of each offer. The general terms for this time around are:

  • You need to register for the promotion before March 9, 2026.
  • All promotion activities must be completed by March 9, 2026.
  • Only activities booked after registration (and completed on or before March 9, 2026) are eligible for the promotion.
  • Allow six to eight weeks after the end of the promotion for the bonus miles to reach your account.
  • Each trip must have a fare (defined below) equal to or greater than a set amount (e.g., $200 per trip).
  • Flights must be operated by United to count.
  • Certain specialty tickets, including but not limited to unpublished, consolidator/bulk, group, tour, and opaque fares don't qualify.

For these offers, United defines a “trip” as “a unique travel itinerary documented by United with a confirmation number.” Thus, you can book a trip as two one-ways to get two qualifying “trips” for the sake of this promotion. Just make sure that you meet the minimum cost to make it a qualifying trip.

Speaking of which, only the base fare and any carrier-imposed surcharges count toward the minimum spending requirement:

For this promotion, only dollars spent on the “fare” on eligible flights operated by United® and United Express® will qualify toward meeting spending milestones… The “fare” is the base fare of the ticket plus carrier-imposed surcharges, excluding any government-imposed taxes and surcharges. For tickets purchased in a currency other than U.S. dollars, we will convert the purchase to U.S. dollars using an industry standard exchange rate.

United Mile Play restrictions

Although the offer seems widely available, not all MileagePlus accounts will be targeted for the United Mile Play promotion. The exclusion criteria are not entirely clear. However, restrictions may be due to your United account's geographical location, mileage balance, or even the age of the account.

Finally, you can buy United miles, although you'll almost always want to wait until there's a discount or bonus to do so.

Our Take

If you are a United MileagePlus member, it only takes seconds to register and check your offer for this round of Mile Play. And there's no downside to registering. Even if you don't plan on flying United in the next several weeks, your travel plans may change. It's worth registering to give yourself the option later.

  • KareK says:

I saw mine and I would have to book and take 2 trips by the 30jul but I would only get 4k bonus miles? I rarely fly UA so the bonus is enticing but not enough to make me pay the higher fares they have.

  • fernando pojaghi says:

Gracias por la publicación. Revisé mi cuenta de United y no soy elegible para esta oferta. ¿Será porque solo vuelo Economy básica?

  • Jo says:

“Thanks for your interest”. No offers here either 🙁

  • Richard says:

Gonna give it a try and see if I get any offers!

  • LAWRENCE says:

United promotion seems pretty good if you expect to be flying during the offer period.

  • KareK says:

I do often get this from UA but I live in an AA hub, therefore, I usually fly AA. I have never taken advantage of this promo, yet. I like that they are still offering this and thinking out of the box to increase ridership.

  • Froide says:

Here’s the message I received when I tried to register:

    Thanks for your interest.
Unfortunately, the account number you entered is not eligible for this offer. Please visit united.com to view your account details, book flights, and explore all the ways to earn and use miles.

  • Jackson says:

    No offers. 🙁

  • Harvey Kwan says:

Not eligible for this promotion, located in NY

  • Rob says:

None for me either. I guess not flying UA for years plays into it.

  • omi22 says:

Unfortunately it look like my account is not eligible 🙁 Perhaps it is because it’s been quite awhile since I have booked a United flight

  • askmrlee says:

Are children’s Mileage Plus accounts from promotions in general? Their accounts get a “Your account does not qualify for these offer” type message instead of “You have no offers” message.

    • Erik Paquet says:

I haven’t heard any specific info about accounts in a minor’s name being excluded from promotions, but it’s certainly possible. It might also be that the promo requires you to meet some spending / flying threshold that your kids just haven’t met.

1 flight nets me 9300 miles.

  • Rosario says:

As expected I’m not targeted by this promo.
Maybe because I’m based in Europe.

  • Carmen says:

Unfortunately it look like my account is not eligible 🙁 Perhaps it is because it’s been quite awhile since I have booked a United flight

  • Darren says:

No offers. 🙁 How does the targeting work? I’ve flown 2.5 trips this year on United (and the single one way was in first).

  • AJ says:

Taking 3 trips in the next 60 days will be hard. I definitely travel but have been using Delta much more lately.

  • Ross says:

I love these kind of promotions, that are like a game! It’s really engaging for me somehow!

  • m says:

United could spread the love to those currently unable to fly by creating some offers that do not involve flying. E.g. restaurant dining or United GC purchase.

  • Bob says:

Got 10,000 miles, whats this worth in $$ about $150.00?

  • Simon says:

Sadly not available to me for some reason!

  • Ron says:

My offer is worthwhile especially considering that I expect to take a few short business trips in the next few weeks. United has the better schedule for the airports I use. This is a beneficial promotion.

  • gabriel rama says:

Where I live there are many cases of covid19 and there are restrictions on the departure of flights abroad, as soon as they solve this problem I will travel to the USA, Europe and the Caribbean. Take advantage of these credit card and traveler programs!

  • Maryjane says:

I completed last quarter’s mileplay so I thought it unlikely that I would get to play again so soon. I was surprised to find an offer of 5500 points after completing three flights. The way it is set up, it makes it doubly important to book one way trips rather than return.

My offer was not particularly generous, but better than nothing. Especially since my flying patterns will make this one quite easy to achieve. I think it is also stackable with United’s current offer for elites and my United Explorer card’s offer.

  • P says:

Keeping my fingers crossed that I will get a targeted offer. I love United..

  • Patricio Chifflet says:

Hi! It is a great opportunity the fact that United had launched a new version of its Mile Play promotion.
We will be able to earn bonus United miles for completing our individually-tailored tasks. It motivates us to travel more often with United. Thanks for taking care of your customers!

  • angelo fonseca says:

The offer is really cool. I’ve never seen anything like this at United. Too bad I’m not targeted.

  • BW says:

    Not targeted again… bummer. 🙁

  • KareK says:

I had known about this new promo. I’ll have to look. Usually they just want me to fly since I haven’t flown UA yet. I wonder how many people are like me, who have gotten all their miles through charges and promos? It is highly likely that I will be not targeted.

  • Darren says:

They really don’t give you a whole lot of time to complete this. As if I can just drop everything and book a flight for two weeks from now. Oh well.

  • ECR says:

I wonder why they have only targeted some members. Although targets may be tailored due to the individual’s profile and flying history, it would have made sense to me to offer everybody a target to encourage more flying.

  • Steve says:

Wow, this United game is way harder to earn points than the AA 40 anniversary game.

  • AJ says:

Mine was having to fly 4 times in the next 2 months. Yeah, highly doubtful that is going to happen. Terrible on United’s part.

  • JE says:

I got a deal to fly three trips in a premium cabin (each trip requires a minimum spend of $1000) and for that will receive 110,000 miles. That’s a good deal and well worth it to upgrade a standard ticket to first class for all of those extra miles…

  • D V says:

I had got an offer for PLAY sometime back but did not click on it. Now it does not show up in my account. Maybe it was for something else, but good to know and I will keep an eye for more offers.

  • Mnsotn says:

Well, did not qualify. Wonder, if, it is because I took advantage of the most recent points for sale offer?

  • Pete says:

3 trips for 5,000 bonus miles. Nope.

  • Rob says:

I got offered a ton of miles, but the tasks are ones that I’d be very unlikely to hit even in normal times — and there’s no way I’ll hit them during a pandemic.

  • Florencia says:

Log in to my United MileagePlus account and I don’t have any missions or promotions assigned… 🙁

  • arshi007 says:

Got targeted for 3300 points after two trips, not a compelling promo. If I were already taking trips, would have gotten it but not really compelling enough. Would have preferred to see some Visa Mileage promo in the MileagePlusX app like last year.

  • Jamie says:

Kind of reminds me of the old IHG Accelerate program in a way. Ultimately, any chance for more more miles/points is a good thing though.

  • DW says:

Bummer not eligible for this promo again… Thank you for the post though!

  • Andrew says:

I got and used the first promo- 1 trip 5k miles. This time it’s 2 for 5700k miles. The second is unlikely to happen

  • KareK says:

I saw this and went to see and I didn’t get anything. Oh well. I did discover that MyPoints might be my magic way of earning UA points. Getting points from receipts can add up and a person could get quite a bit built up to redeem.

  • Jennifer says:

I was not targeted this time around nor the last time either. I would like to know their exact criteria for who would be targeted.

  • Charles says:

Overseas MileagePlus are totally out of luck this time.

  • Will says:

It will be difficult to respond to this challenge, unless you still travel a lot within the USA for business.

  • Maryjane says:

I got fly two trips and earn 2500 miles. Each trip has to be 175 dollars to qualify. Not nearly enough to entice me to fly Inited when I need to keep my status on American and Delta. Of course I just found out about a contract in a town that is only served by United, so I might actually achieve this offer in spite of my preferences.

  • Ed says:

I checked my United account and I am not eligible for this offer. Could it be because I only fly basic Economy?

    • JT Genter says:

Potentially! United doesn’t share how they pick who is and isn’t eligible. So, that could potentially factor in, but we can’t know for sure.

  • Rob says:

Could really use this promo in the UK. I assume it doesn’t apply?

    • JT Genter says:

I don’t see any geographic restrictions. But, it’s probably going to take a trip to the States to be able to earn any bonuses.

  • Amy says:

    Didn’t work for me 🙁

  • Irina says:

No luck! I’ve tried, but it didn’t work.

  • Froide says:

    Thanks for your interest.
Unfortunately, the account number you entered is not eligible for this offer. Please visit united.com to view your account details, book flights, and explore all the ways to earn and use miles.

  • Anup says:

I wasn’t one of the eligible recipients for the MilePlay this time around. I did receive it at least once in the last year or so. Curious about the criteria.

  • Darren says:

No offers. 🙁 Any thoughts or tips on how to get targeted?

    • EC says:

Long ago, I researched whether or not anything could be done. Unfortunately, I came up with zilch. All we know is that it is based on how you currently fly with them, since that’s the only info they have. And, I doubt anyone is willing to change their flying habits with a carrier just to receive their targeted promotions, especially when you don’t know how exactly to change.

  • Alan says:

Why not all MileagePlus accounts will be targeted for the United Mile Play promotion? I am sad.

  • Miles says:

I got an offer for fly once, get 6,000 miles. Much much better than any UA offer I’ve gotten in the past.
