Copa Airlines just launched a new deal on ConnectMiles where you can get up to an 80% bonus. This promotion runs now through June 10, 2026, which gives you plenty of time to buy miles for as little as 1.61¢ each.

Combining that purchase rate with Copa's appealing partner award chart can score some deals when buying Copa miles and redeeming them for award flights. Let's look at when it makes sense to buy Copa ConnectMiles — and when it doesn't.

A General Note on Buying Miles

As a general rule, buying points or miles isn't usually the best idea. Airlines typically sell miles at a much higher price than what they're worth. While buying miles with a bonus or discount can provide better value, it doesn't always mean it's your best option.

However, there are exceptions to almost every rule. For instance, if you're looking to top up your balance to make a sweet redemption, a miles sale can make a lot of sense. Buying miles can also save you money if the cost of buying the miles for a redemption is cheaper than the cash price of the ticket. Plus, in Copa's case, you can't transfer credit card points or miles directly to Copa ConnectMiles.

How Many ConnectMiles Do I Need for an Award Flight?

ConnectMiles redemptions on Copa Airlines

Copa Airlines uses an award chart for its own flights. Although this means you can't find cheaper award pricing on specific dates, it does mean you'll know what to expect when redeeming your ConnectMiles for award travel.

If you're looking to travel on Copa Airlines, you have two options: Saver Awards and Standard Awards.

Comparison of Saver and Standard Awards
Screenshot of Copa Airlines

However, just because Copa uses an award chart, it doesn't mean that an award flight will have availability at that price on any given date. Before buying miles or transferring them, always check for availability.

ConnectMiles redemptions on Star Alliance partners

Copa Airlines is a member of the Star Alliance, which means you can use your ConnectMiles on flights with United, Ethiopian Airlines, and other alliance members. Using your miles on partner-operated flights can often provide way more value, depending on your departure and arrival airports. Copa also uses saver and standard awards for United redemptions, helping you stretch your miles even farther.

Buy Copa ConnectMiles and Save on These Redemptions

Let's take a look at a few examples when buying and cashing in your ConnectMiles for an award flight can be a fantastic idea.

Panama — Santiago in Copa Airlines business class

Chile is a country that often goes under the radar — even though it shouldn't. With some of the world's most amazing vineyards in the north and Patagonia's stunning beauty to the south, Chile is a must-visit spot in South America. And for only 40,000 miles in business class, this 6.5-hour flight provides a decent bang for your buck. Make sure to book a flight labeled “Dreams” if you want a lie-flat seat.

  • Mileage rate: 40,000 miles + $80 one-way
  • Typical cash price: $1,807 round-trip
  • Redemption rate: 2.06¢ per mile
  • Cost to buy 45,000 miles with an 80% bonus: $722.25
  • Cost to buy exactly 40,000 miles at the optimal 1.61¢ rate: $644

Los Angeles — New York in United Polaris

A business standard award on the nonstop flight from Los Angeles to New York in United Polaris will cost 50,000 miles. If you're lucky, you can find a business saver award for just 25,000 miles, but availability is extremely rare. Even so, United regularly charges 120,000 miles for this route, so 50,000 miles is a win.

  • Mileage rate: 50,000 miles + $5.60 one-way
  • Typical cash price: $1,777 round-trip
  • Redemption rate: 1.77¢ per mile
  • Cost to buy 54,000 miles with an 80% bonus: $866.70
  • Cost to buy exactly 50,000 miles at the optimal 1.61¢ rate: $805

New York — Dubai on Ethiopian Airlines business class

When you can find availability, you can book Emirates business class through Copa for phenomenal rates and low surcharges. However, Emirates availability is rare. If you want to go to Dubai, you can fly from New York to Dubai on Ethiopian Airlines' business class for just 80,000 miles.

  • Mileage rate: 80,000 miles + $10 one-way
  • Typical cash price: $7,498 round-trip
  • Redemption rate: 4.67¢ per mile
  • Cost to buy 81,000 miles with an 80% bonus: $1,300.05
  • Cost to buy exactly 80,000 miles at the optimal 1.61¢ rate: $1,288

Bottom Line

Copa Airlines ConnectMiles isn't a program that’s on many travelers’ radars, but it should be. And if you’re thinking about getting familiar with it and stocking up on miles to redeem for Copa or Star Alliance-operated flights, this promotion to buy Copa ConnectMiles for 1.61¢ each could provide value.

If you're right on the cusp of a redemption, this promotion could provide the last little push you need. If you're unable to boost your Copa account by transferring Marriott points, then buying ConnectMiles to top up your balance could make sense.

Will you be buying Copa ConnectMiles while they cost 1.61¢ each?
