Now through August 8, 2025, Iberia Club loyalty members can buy Avios with a 50% bonus. When maximized, U.S. account holders can grab Avios for as little as 1.54¢ each. There are several ways to use Avios for fantastic value, so it's worth weighing this new offer in the context of your future travel plans.
Since most AwardWallet members live in the United States, all pricing mentioned will be in USD. While the pricing for U.S. account holders is slightly more if you purchase with Euros (EUR) or Great British Pounds (GBP), we will use the 1.54¢ per Avios value for all examples.

A Note on Buying Iberia Avios
We never recommend buying miles speculatively. Programs can devalue at any time, long-term travel plans can change, and the last thing anybody needs is a substantial investment in a currency they can't use. That said, there are a few circumstances where buying points and miles could represent terrific value, especially when they're on sale.
If you only need a few more points to make a redemption, buying points can be the simplest and fastest way to get over the threshold. Moreover, if you're considering paying a cash rate for a premium-class product or a particularly expensive route, it may be possible to save money by buying the necessary points for an award redemption instead. In either case, it's best to have a plan before purchasing.
Key Terms for This Buy Iberia Avios Promotion
- Promotion valid on Avios purchases made through August 8, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. CET.
- Buy at least 2,000 Avios to receive the 50% bonus.
- Iberia loyalty members may purchase a maximum of 100,000 Avios (150,000 with the bonus) per transaction.

Be aware, the wording for this promotion can be slightly deceiving. Although members will receive 50% bonus Avios regardless of how many are purchased, the cost per Avios decreases ever so slightly the more you buy — so the more you buy, the better the value.
All three account types (U.S., U.K., and EU) will receive the best price per Avios when purchasing 100,000 Avios (150,000 including the bonus).
Purchase Iberia Avios with U.S. Dollars for the best rate
The rate for buying Iberia Avios depends on the country where your Iberia Plus account is registered. That means the cost per Avios will be better in one country than the others. That country (this time) happens to be the U.S. — but not by much. Here are how the prices break down for each currency ($1 USD = 0.88 EUR and $1 USD = 0.76 GBP):
- 150,000 Avios (with bonus) in USD = $2,315 (1.54¢ per Avios)
- 150,000 Avios (with bonus) in EUR = €2,135 (equal to $2,436 USD which is 1.62¢ per Avios)
- 150,000 Avios (with bonus) in GBP = £1,779 (equal to $2,348 USD which is 1.57¢ per Avios)

When Does Buying Iberia Avios Make Sense?
Finding tons of value in Iberia's Avios program is possible as long as you know where to look — despite a recent devaluation. Some of our favorite uses for Avios are on off-peak Iberia flights in business class across the Atlantic and long-haul partner flights in business class.
Let's look at some of these sweet spots to see if you can save money by buying Avios instead of paying the cash rate for a flight.
Boston — Madrid in Iberia business class
- Mileage rate: 81,000 Avios + $286.61 round-trip
- Cash price: $4,580 round-trip
- Redemption rate: 5.3¢ per Avios
- Cost to purchase 90,000 Avios (at 1.55¢ each): $1,399
- Cost to purchase exactly 81,000 Avios (at optimal 1.54¢ each): $1,247

If you’ve ever wanted to try Cathay Pacific business class, this redemption stands out for a couple of reasons.
First, Cathay Pacific business class award space is notoriously hard to find — but you can book it through Iberia. This example is for travel in July 2026, which is farther out than most programs allow, and these awards get snapped up quickly. That’s why you might struggle to find availability through other partners. Second, buying the miles for this redemption can cost significantly less than paying the high cash fare.
Iberia Buy Avios History
From 2020 through 2023, Iberia was good for three or four buy-Avios promotions a year. But nowadays, it appears that Iberia has moved to offering a single sale annually!
And while most of the promotions reflect a 50% bonus, the per-Avios cost varies due to the changes in the exchange rate. The minimum cost-per-Avios value reflects the best rate members can get between the U.S., U.K., and European markets — which usually is the European market (except for this time…) when all is said and done:

Avios.com is the new website where you'll purchase Iberia Avios, so these transactions aren't processed by Iberia itself. Therefore, the purchase won't code as travel if you use one of the best credit cards for travel purchases. Instead, use one of these credit cards:

Other Ways to Earn Iberia Avios
One of the easiest (and cheapest) ways of topping off your balance is by transferring points from partners. For Iberia, it's particularly easy to accumulate Avios as it's a transfer partner with several major currencies, including:
Transfers can be particularly useful if there's a transfer bonus to British Airways, Aer Lingus, Finnair, or Qatar. Members can take advantage of the transfer bonus and then move the Avios to another Avios airline freely and instantly.
Finally, you can earn Iberia Avios through a co-branded credit card sign-up bonus and daily spending. Chase partners with all three of the IAG partners, and — since Avios can be transferred interchangeably — you can utilize any of them to earn a respectable amount of Iberia Avios:
- 3X Avios per $1 spent on purchases with Iberia, British Airways, Aer Lingus, and LEVEL
- 2X Avios per $1 spent on hotel accommodations
- 1X Avios for every $1 spent on all other purchases

Bottom Line
Iberia's program has its quirks — that's for sure. But it also presents several distinctive sweet spots. It's also a huge win that the premiums for U.S. account holders to buy Avios have decreased significantly recently, making it less punitive to buy Avios in USD. While we never recommend buying miles speculatively, a 50% bonus provides a few scenarios where it's possible to come out ahead when purchasing Avios for as little as 1.54¢ apiece.

are you sure you have to have an open Iberia for 90 days to transfer avios through avios.com? I know directly from BA to IB you do. The 34K off-peak biz is a narrow window in DC because our IB is seasonal. Unfortunately not many AA savers are showing are showing on any avios program anymore. I miss those.
Avios is an excellent program. I always find nice deals between south america and europe.

Iberia account needs to be open for at least 90 days. Details on BA account need to match Iberia. I would do a test transfer before buying a large number of points, although I’m not sure there is time to do that with this particular sale.

You certainly can, or if your BA account is a household, transfer via Aer Lingus Aer Club/Avios.com to BA. I sweep all my random IB balances to EI, and then on to my BA household account.
Yes you can if your accounts are connected, same address and bozth are older than 90 days with a minimum of 1 Avio on each account.

Some real sweet spots in the Iberia Plus programme
The example given of Chicago to Madrid in business class for 68000 avios return is exceptional value. The tax and charges are also reasonable when compared against a transatlantic flight with British Airways using avios.
As usual, make sure you have an immediate use for the miles if you are buying them. AIrlines have an tendency to devalue at any time, especially Delta which devalued twice within four months.

With airlines in capricious condition, it is like giving them an unsecured loan. So unless you have a use for the miles immediately, it is best to avoid buying miles.
I’m not a fan of IB for several reasons. That being said there are not many points I ever consider buying yet these do offer a great value as you’ve highlighted. 34k ew to Europe on lie flat is a deal no matter who the airline. I prefer to use them domestically over BA Avios as I can get more value since their award pricing is distance based and connections are included in the mileage. Of course the RT caveat is important to note.
I love the tip to buy the points in Euros. I always forget that sometimes deals are better in a different currency than your home currencies.

Very interesting that it is better to buy Avios in Euros. These are the things that make reading blogs so important in this game.
I think Madrid, Spain, is the Europe gate, and I think Iberia is the main Spanish airline, and very well connected with the rest of Europe. My general experience with Iberia is good. Well, I think I trust Iberia will be there for many, many years, and I am planning to travel Europe many times during next years. So in my case I think buying avios at a good prices offer is a good option.

It’s a good promotion but I’m hesitant to spend cash to purchase miles at this time. Also, due to the pandemic, I am sitting on over $6,500 worth of travel vouchers due to cancelled flights. I’ll need to use them before I get around to cashing in miles again.
I loved when Iberia had the half-off award sale promotion last year so chicago to madrid was only 17,000 in business class off peak.
I don’t think that I will take advantage of this offer although there definitely are sweet spots. It is for transactions like these that my Barclaycard Arrival Plus is excellent. Getting two points per dollar is important but a lot of cards that give more than one point per dollar have foreign transaction fees.
I will be go to Buy UA miles, during Covid-19 i am not sure when i can go out have a trip. UA miles will be expire now, It’s much more safe. Also UA have no YQ Fee.

I don’t belive Iberia has service to India at the moment. You could use Iberia points to fly with British Airways, although there might be cheaper ways to go depending on what other miles you have.

One detail about Iberia Avios compared with BA. With BA if there’s a change in plans it is relatively easy and inexpensive to cancel and redeposit. With Iberia it is impossible on a partner redemption. Don’t use Iberia to book AA, for example, unless you are really sure.
I have to consider this promotion, very interesting. Not only for the American market, It is interesting flying in Europe, using these Avios instead. A long disance or a Premium service instead of economy. I think could be interesting.

It is possible to connect my Latam pass account with Iberia. Now that Latam has gone from Oneworld, is there any way that I can use my miles in oneworld airlines? I had only used Oneworld members, but now my Latam miles are almost useless. And with that, I can purchase extra Avios in this new account.
Hopefully LATAM will be expanding partner redemptions soon. You won’t be able to use them with Iberia as far as I’m aware.

Not a huge fan of iberia. Had a flight booked with them during the pandemic and they wouldn’t refund even though I was barred from entry. Would only offer a voucher good til the end of the year which probably wont be used. Last thing I’d want to do is buy points from them.

No, you can’t move AAdvantage miles to Avios. You can only transfer Avios between participating airlines (Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia).
