Hilton Honors just launched a new 100% bonus on points purchases. Currently, you can buy as few as 5,000 points to get a 100% bonus — or boost your account balance with up to 320,000 Hilton points for $1,600. Either way, the bonus brings down the cost to just 0.5 cents per point, which matches the best rate we've seen from Hilton.
On average, AwardWallet members get 0.59¢ in value per Hilton Honors point. However, Hilton points can be worth much more when strategically redeemed for stays. And it's not uncommon to get over 2¢ per point at some luxury Hilton properties.

Hilton's terms say points will be deposited within 48 hours of purchase. In our personal experience, purchased points typically arrive instantly. Data points from AwardWallet users indicate that points purchases are processed in an average of 14 hours. However, AwardWallet users only have a reason to set up a Balance Watch tracker if their points do not post immediately!
How to Buy Hilton Points
It's quick and easy to buy Hilton points. Let's walk you through the process. Start by clicking here, select “Buy points,” and log into your Hilton account. Select the number of points you'd like to purchase from the dropdown and click “Buy points.”
In the example below, we're purchasing 200,000 points (including the bonus) for $1,000 — which comes out to 0.5¢ apiece.

Should You Buy Hilton Points?
It's generally only a good idea to buy Hilton points (or any other kind, for that matter) when there's a discount or bonus for buying points, such as right now. If there's not a bonus or discount, then you're better off waiting for one or accruing points through other methods.
But there are several situations that could make it worth buying Hilton Honors points. First, buying points can be the easiest (and fastest) way to top off your account if you only need a few more points for a specific award stay. Second, buying enough points for an award stay is sometimes cheaper than paying the cash rate for the same hotel room.
However, if you don't need the points urgently, you could get a credit card that earns Hilton points. Doing so would allow you to boost your account balance through a great welcome offer.

When Does It Make Sense To Buy Hilton Points?
The best value comes from using Hilton Honors points at the extremes of the award spectrum: ultra-aspirational properties where cash rates are astronomical and lower-tier properties during high-demand periods.
Let's take a look at a few instances when buying Hilton points could save you a significant amount compared to paying the cash rate.
Palm Suite, an SLH Hotel
There are hundreds of Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties that you can book through Hilton, and some of them offer a great deal on points redemptions. For example, a room at the Palm Suite, an SLH Hotel, is routinely available for 100,000 Hilton points per night.
While 100,000 points may seem like a lot for a one-night stay, you might reconsider once you check the cash rate. On this night in particular, the same room is available for 613.60 euros, or roughly $717. During this promotion, you can purchase 100,000 points for $500, which is a fantastic savings if you plan to use the points for a stay at this SLH property.
Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter
San Diego is one of my favorite cities, but one thing I'm not a huge fan of is how expensive hotel nights can be. A great example is the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, where a one-night stay can sometimes exceed $550. The taxes and fees here really add up.
And that’s precisely where points come in. On this same night in July, you can book the exact same room for 70,000 points. You could buy that many points for $350, and best of all, you won’t have to pay the $37 mandatory nightly charge (plus tax) out of pocket. Talk about a deal!

Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach
There’s a case to be made that one of the best Hilton redemptions is in Waikiki Beach, Honolulu. And that’s a big deal if you want to do Hawaii with points and miles. At the Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach, award nights start at 55,000 points. As you’ll quickly see, it’s a steal.
That’s because of all the add-on costs in Hawaii. Taxes, fees, and resort charges add up fast, so the price you see, even when it looks cheap, is not what you actually pay. For example, a one-night stay here can cost over $323.
In other words, why pay $323 out of pocket when you could buy 55,000 Hilton points for $275? That’s real savings you can use for the rest of your Hawaiian vacation.
Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi
By now, you probably understand that there are plenty of situations where it’s more cost-effective to buy Hilton points than to pay the cash rate. But here’s one more example, and we saved the best for last. It’s the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, one of the most aspirational Hilton properties you can book.
Award rates here are, to put it bluntly, expensive. And they’ve gotten even more expensive now that Hilton increased the standard room award night cap from 150,000 to 250,000 points. If you want to stay at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, the lowest award rate you’ll find is 250,000 points per night.
However, if you strategically purchase 250,200 Hilton points for $1,250 — or use the 100% bonus promotion to top off your account — you can save a substantial amount compared to the cash rate. This property, with rare exception, will cost you over $2,000 per night, and sometimes a lot more than that. In this case, buying points easily takes the cake.

Buy Hilton Honors points to get a fifth night free
Another thing to love about the Hilton Honors program is that members with any status are entitled to the Hilton fifth-night-free benefit on award stays. This allows you to stretch your purchase of Hilton points even further. Just keep in mind that it doesn't function exactly how you'd expect.
Rather than providing the fifth night free, Hilton averages the nightly value of the stay across all nights of any award stay over five nights. Then, Hilton deducts the average cost of one night from the stay. That means if some nights are more expensive, such as holidays, local events, etc., your average price will go up as well.
Considering that even the no-annual-fee Hilton Amex (Rates & Fees) offers complimentary Hilton™ Silver status, the fifth-night-free perk can substantially raise the value of any Hilton points purchase. Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.

Limits on This Hilton Buy Points Offer
During this promotion, Hilton is limiting the base number of points you can purchase to 160,000 points. After factoring in the 100% bonus, you can score as many as 320,000 points through this deal.
If this still isn't enough points, Hilton also provides an avenue to get around this cap. Members can transfer points to others with Hilton points pooling. With the option to pool points from up to 10 other accounts, your buying capacity is only limited by your network of family and trustworthy friends.
For example, if you need more than the 320,000 points offered in this bonus, you can recruit friends or family members to buy Hilton points and pool them together for the redemption you're after. Or, get your “Player 2” to buy points, then pool them together.
Maximize Your Hilton Points Purchase

You won't want to use a co-branded Hilton credit card when you buy Hilton points. Even though Hilton cards offer a bonus for Hilton purchases, purchases processed by Points.com don't qualify as Hilton purchases.

Factoring in the 2x earning rate on The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express (on up to $50,000 in spending each year, then 1x), small business owners can effectively earn 4x Hilton points on everyday purchases! However, there are many ways to get more value from Amex Membership Rewards points, so we don't recommend using a lot of Amex points this way.

Used to be able to consistently get the Red Sea properties at 5k a night, now the options are usually 20k÷

I’m new to this. How do you calculate the points value, purchase value?
Hi Johnny, the value of points is found by dividing the cost by the number of points received (ex: if you buy 1,000 points for $10, you’d get $10/1,000 = .01 or 1 cent). The same applies when using points: divide the money saved by the number of points required.
Doesn’t look like everyone gets what the travel bloggers get. Here’s what I got:
“Minimum 5,000 Points purchase required to qualify for the 90% bonus offer. Members can purchase up to 80,000 Points during this promotion. Offer ends May 9.”
When I was about to add a different credit card, this popup showed up:
“Don’t forget if you use your Hilton Honors Amex Card for this purchase you will earn 3X Bonus Points. Terms apply.”
Maybe this is worth the “eligible bonus points? But it maxes out at $800 for 152k points – which is around 0.5263 cents per point.
(I already have a redemption lined up for 0.574cpp, so that’s about 0.05cpp “free value” for something I was planning on doing anyway).
It’s a shame it’s not EXACTLY 0.5cpp (for buying points), but I’m not too miffed about it.

The “Min CPP” referenced in the chart means “Minimum cost per point”. For Hilton, you should try to get 0.5 US cents per point when redeeming. Yes, you can transfer points to friends/family, but there might be a cost to do so.
Good ideal if you have last minute need for points to book a reservation.
0.5 cents/point is about average for hotels….but can do better doing credit card bonus spends.

I just got the Hilton Aspire credit card and am working on meeting the minimum spending for the welcome bonus. If I buy points using this credit card, will it qualify as an eligible purchase by Amex to meet the spending threshold? The terms and conditions specify such things as charges made for interest, fees, gift cards, travelers checks and other cash equivalents as not eligible purchases, so it seems to me that buying HH points would be OK as an eligible purchase. I would appreciate others’ opinions on this. Thanks.
Point purchases should count toward minimum spend requirements. I have even used this method to help meet spending requirements in the past – although I forget which card I used. My only hesitation in fully endorsing this is how Amex can be very unpredictable. But, I wouldn’t have any hesitation trying this for one of my cards if needed.

It’s an incredible opportunity to get a better amount of points at an affordable price and schedule our summer trip!
Don’t forget when paying cash your also earning points and bonus points depending on your status. If buying points just make sure the savings is well worth it as in the examples provided if it’s just a little cheaper then better to spend cash and earn points. I hardly ever use points unless I’m staying at least 5 nights to get most bang for the point or of its at an elite property and I ran out of free night certificates.

I don’t understand Hilton award levels. That’s great that a $2,500 Maldives booking can be made for 150,000, so why is a Homewood Suites stay in July (yes I get that it’s peak Summer season) labeled as a “Premium Room Award” and costs $350/night or 140,000 points? That’s barely over $0.0025/point!
Oh wow, that’s a terrible redemption. But, it kinda makes sense when you factor in how Hilton Honors reimburses hotels for award stays. The reimbursement rate is a lot higher if the hotel is full. So that seems to be why Hilton prices Premium Room Awards at seemingly absurd levels.

Unfortunately there have been too many substantial devaluations in recent years with Hilton to make this attractive to me. Ironically though I did manage a redemption in the last month which actually would have been worthwhile buying for under this offer if I didn’t already have them.
You all are always right about only buying if you need to top off unless you get the credit card, etc. I am leaning more towards Hyatt these days. They seem to still have a free breakfast at hotels I am staying at with them and I have heard them talk positively at hotels about their elites. Not so much with Hilton and Marriott or IHG. Building points with Hilton and Marriott is more just using them towards stays at hotels rather than getting elite status now. I don’t see much in the way of benefits to get elite status with the other hotel companies. I wonder how many will possibly switch to Hyatt, if they can, because of the lack of benefits.

DO you have any idea till when the Hilton points will remain as well as the status. In my part of the world, flights are still almost not exists. I would love to use such benefits as described above.
They expire after 12 months of inactivity, so hopefully you’ll still have time. Although I wouldn’t buy them unless you are ready to redeem otherwise you risk a devaluation.

Exactly. The default should still be not to buy points. But we want to flag that it can sometimes make more sense to buy points and redeem for a reward night than just paying cash.
The travel loyalty points are rewarding as the Boeing stocks, as it has turned out. The catastrophic 2020 and uncertain 2021 have shown us.

Actually buying Hilton points can make some sense, for use overseas.
Great deal if you have a dormant account that qualifies. Minimum is only 1,000 points, so you can buy 7,000 points for only $10. And then transfer then to a family member or friend.

Answered my own question – – the 5K bonus offer is only available for dormant accounts with expiring points.
5 cents per point sounds high to me from my redemption experience. I have been redeeming points about 4 cents a point, and would consider buying only at a lower price such as 3 cents per point.
Considering a 0.5 cpp redemption value is on the high end, all of those are way too high.
Only makes sense for redemptions in the very few locations that are still at pre-COVID prices. Or perhaps those where taxes are comparatively high (avoid taxes with award stays).

Where does it say, ‘Get 5,000 bonus points for making a purchase of any size,’ IN ADDITION TO the 100% bonus? I just clicked on it, and all I see is that a purchase of 5000 + 5000 bonus points to =10K for $50 is the minimum to get the 100% bonus!

Reading the terms and conditions I did not see where you would get an additional 5000 points besides the 100% bonus. Am I missing something?
Nope! That’s our bad. It looked like this 5k bonus was being offered to all members. But it turns out that not everyone qualifies for the 5k bonus.
So, if I’m reading this correctly, I can buy 5000 pts and get 100% bonus (so 5000 more pts) plus a bonus of 5000 additional pts? That would be the sweet spot, right?
That’s correct! Although, it does look like some members have to buy at least 10k points to get the 100% bonus. Even so, that’s $100 for 25k points after the 5k bonus – which is still a great deal!
To me, these hotels and these credit cards could be alot better especially at this time. Everyone needs business and is struggling, but the lack of good deals makes it hard to spend on travel and hotels. They need to do a bit better.
I really like Hilton and there are some good valor redemptions at the moment but I still wouldn’t buy points even with the bonus.
I wouldn’t buy points. Instead I would look to do a CC SUB instead.

Unfortunately no, pooling points doesn’t count as a qualifying activity to extend the expiration date. But, there are several easy ways to avoid it otherwise: transfer 1,000 Amex Membership Rewards points to Hilton (there’s currently a 40% transfer bonus), use ¢1 worth of points to buy something on Amazon, buy 1,000 points for $10…

The 5th-night free benefit must to be use for a award stay. Unless we have a very certain itinerary, the points we purchased may depreciate due to hotel adjustments at any time. So i am not suggest we buy too much points here. but if you have a trip here , you can buy that.
The Maldives hotel should be most valuable place i would like to buy points to redeem. It’ very expensive if i use money to go to there. But to be avoid to go out we stay at home should be more safe as Covid-19.
In general, it is difficult for me to spend money on hotel points, since I think that later when booking they will always prefer someone who pays cash than someone who books nights with points. Is it really possible to book a New Years night in Times Square with points?
Even though New Years Eve is still five months away, I could envision a ball drop with few, if any, spectators in Times Square this year. By December, room rates could be much lower than they are now.
Although I have not used Hilton points many times, those few times I have used them they’ve always been extremely useful.

Now there are less good opportunities compared to a couple of years ago.
Hilton is by far my favorite hotel chain, but there is very little value in the points. They have had that many often hidden devaluations in recent years there are rarely any redemptions that are worthwhile for me. In the distant past I bought Hilton points but now not even a 300% bonus would tempt me.
I find they are basically worth about 0.5 cents fairly constantly. The problem is that’s about the same as what you buy them for during this promo so you want to make sure you have a specific redemption in mind that makes sense before buying.

I’m not sure why you would buy Hilton points now with so much uncertainty about travelling due to Covid 19. In Australia, we are banned from leaving the country and a lot of our state borders are closed,. not to mention all the Hilton points I got refunded from cancelled award room reservations.
Do you know where can I check the terms of service of this Hilton Rewards Promo points? If my home country is still under lockdown by the time I redeemed my points, can I change the date? I only wonder because with this global situation, things are getting risky …

This is a fairly regular yet decent offer. I just wished Hilton got a bit more creative in how the points can be utilized (like Marriott air+travel packages) or more along the lines of SPG.

Totally agree with you, Unless you have a plan to spend them right away, spending cash on something that they can change the rules on you at anytime with no recourse is risky. Lots of valuations changes all the time happen. You don’t want to get burned.
I think its hilarious that Hilton makes a point to advertise the Maldives STELLA MARIS OCEAN VILLA at 2 million points a night as having “400 threadcount sheets”.

Two million?? At a certain point they need to take a cue from the stock market. When prices get too high you sometimes see the stock split as high prices discourage some buyers. Similarly here, high redemptions can make it seem unobtainable and daunting.
