Alaska Airlines has announced a new promotion that awards a minimum 10,000 Mileage Plan miles for paid round-trip tickets on Alaska partner airlines. The promo is valid on partner flights from North America to any country outside of North America, and runs from March 1 through December 31, 2020.
Key terms
- Valid March 1 through December 31, 2020.
- Earn 5,000 miles each way on partner flights.
- Earn bonus miles on flights between North America and non-North American destinations.
- North America is defined as the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
- Allow 4-6 weeks for the bonus miles to post to your account.
- Bonus points do not count towards elite status qualification.

- American Airlines
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific
- Condor
- EL AL Israel Airlines
- Emirates
- Fiji Airways
- Finnair
- Hainan Airlines

Who Benefits the Most From This Alaska Promo?
What is noteworthy about this promo is it rewards people traveling on cheap international paid tickets over or those purchasing premium cabin tickets. If you fly with an Alaska partner in a premium cabin, you will likely earn more than 10,000 miles without the bonus, so you won't pick up any additional miles from this deal.
However, if you book a discounted revenue ticket on an Alaska partner airline—one that would typically earn only a small percentage of flown miles—you will receive a significant boost since you are guaranteed a minimum of 10,000 miles per round-trip.
How does this work in practice?
Let's say you purchase a round-trip basic economy flight on British Airways from Boston to London and credit your miles to Alaska. Flying BOS-LHR comes in at 3,265 miles each way on Great Circle Mapper, so a round-trip flight would total 6,530 flown miles. As British Airways Basic Economy flights book into the lowest fare classes and earn 25% of miles flown, you would only collect 1,633 Alaska miles for your round-trip flight without the bonus. With Alaska's current promo, you'll earn a minimum 10,000 miles. A massive increase of 8,367 miles over what you would typically receive when flying a basic economy fare.
You can currently book Spring flights between Boston and London for as little as $350 on British Airways. If you value Alaska miles at a conservative 2¢ per mile, the 10,000 miles earned on those flights represent a $200 discount off the cost of your ticket, or 57% off, effectively bringing the price down to ~$150.
Our Take
Alaska Mileage Plan is our favorite frequent flyer program, and promos like these will keep it at the top of the list. You don't need to register for this promo, all you need to remember is to book with an Alaska partner and credit your flight to Alaska Mileage Plan, and you are guaranteed a minimum of 10,000 miles per round trip.

I don’t believe I’ve seen an offer so universally well-received by AW commentators in quite some time.
If only the COVID-19 scare can go away more quickly…
As the world continues to restrict travel due to the Coronavirus, I anticipate we will see even more lucrative bonuses and offers in the coming months.
Really interesting promo. Clearly is great for super cheap fares but I’ll have to review the inflection point (fare class and $ spent) for my upcoming travel to see if it’s a big improvement in earning.
Would it be a good idea to credit all one’s paid AA flights to the Alaksa program in the future.?
Too bad the flight has to originate in NA…..
One of the flights have to “originate” in North America on a round-trip itinerary, no???
WIth the Coronavirus issue growing, I expect to see even more lucrative incentives in the coming weeks.
Does this have anything to do with their OneWorld application?
Is it necessary to book by a certain date or just fly by end of the year?
I’m not aware of any restrictions on booking dates.
Can you earn the bonus on a one way flight?
Yep 5,000 on a one way I believe.
Great. Do you know if there is a maximum number of points you can earn?
I’m not aware of a cap on earnings.
great promo especially when flying on basic economy.
Great offer, Alaska Mileage Plan is an under rated scheme
This is a fantastic offer for those flying on cheap tickets. It seems like a long time ago when a mile was a mile. Nowadays you only get a fraction of a mile on cheap tickets. Sometimes no mileage credits at all.
Pity my 2 flights with Alaska partners are cancelled due to coronavirus…
Sorry to hear that. I have a Fiji Air round trip to Tonga at the end of May that I’m a little worried about. Hopefully things have normalized by then.
P.S. – Remember to wash your hands frequently and follow all other medical/scientific recommendations! ?
Thanks for the reminder, but at the least this sentence needs updating: “ It doesn’t include American Airlines, as the start date of this deal falls on the same day Alaska and American effectively end their current partnership.” The promotion may not include AA, but their partnership was renewed or actually even expanded.
Hey Kevin, thanks for the correction. I’ve updated the post.
What about BA code-share flights on AA metals?
This is a good offer but remember that it only lasts until the end of the year, so the flights need to occur by then to count.
This is great promotion. Do I need to register?
No need to register. Bonus miles will apply to all Alaska partner flights between March 1 and December 31, 2020.
I wonder why they make it so easy with the “no registration” sweetener.
That is odd. Airlines never make it easy for things like this.
Excellent! Thanks for the information!
This is a fantastic promotion! I just joined AwardWallet and looking forword to seeing more great content.
A fantastic promotion, I just wish I had affiliation with any of the airlines listed. Said!
This is a great addition to these programs!!!
This is an absolute no-brainer if you’re buying an international economy ticket. Love it. Hopefully I can find something on March 1 for summer plans.
This is great! Wish we could double dip with the companion pass. Does the ticket have to be paid or can we use miles/vouchers to buy the flight? Also, has anyone seen any good deals for partner flights out of the Bay Area?
The flights need to be revenue tickets. Vouchers would likely book into a revenue fare class, and I would suspect a flight purchased with a companion pass might also get credit. Remember, flights need to be on partner airlines, so you couldn’t use an Alaska Companion pass. But, if you had a British Airways companion pass and purchased a paid ticket, I could imagine that working for this promo if you credit the miles to Alaska. This is pure speculation so let us know if anyone tries that out.
Lastly, mileage tickets aren’t going to work for this since they don’t earn any redeemable miles. However, you could use points through the Chase, Amex, Citi, or Capital One travel portals and get a revenue ticket.
I guess a ticket paid with a $1000 airline voucher and then the remaining $50 on a credit card will work too.
It was disappointing to not see American Airlines in this promotion!
