Delta’s corporate loyalty program, SkyBonus, is offering 20,000 bonus points for companies that register before July 31, 2019, and fly within 60 days. If you own (or work for) a business that pays for employee travel, this is a great opportunity to double dip on rewards.
What is Delta SkyBonus?
Corporate loyalty programs are an extra layer of rewards on top of the points and miles awarded to individual flyers. The idea is to provide incentives to small-business owners or the company travel manager to book employee travel through the airline. With Delta SkyBonus, your employees will still earn their own individual Skymiles, but the company will also earn SkyBonus points for each business trip.
The SkyBonus program has a separate award chart, with options to redeem for flights and upgrades.
Delta's Business Program is available for small to medium-sized businesses that have a minimum of 5 employees traveling each year. Although it might be tempting for individuals to register as a business to double down on rewards, there are some checks in place to make sure registrants are real companies. You'll be required to provide your company's Federal Tax ID number (EIN), and there are also reports that Delta does some due diligence like checking for a valid business website. The terms and conditions state that you will need to spend at least $5,000 on employee travel with at least five unique travelers to remain active in the program. Accounts that don't appear to represent a legitimate business have been closed in the past, so it's probably not worth the effort if you don't have a business.
That said, if you are a small business owner, this is a great time to register, thanks to the current new-member bonus.
20,000 SkyBonus Sign-Up Reward
To register for this offer, you'll need to use the promo code OPENJUL19 before July 31st, 2019 to get 20,000 SkyBonus miles. To get the reward, your first flight must be completed within 60 days of signing up (by the end of September 2019). Previous bonuses for signing up have been 10,000 and 15,000 miles, so this is the best deal since 2012 when they had a 25,000 SkyBonus reward for signing up.
It's worth noting that the welcome bonus is not mentioned on the landing page or anywhere during the signup process. The place to add your OPENJUL19 promo code is in step three of the signup process.
Our Take
SkyBonus points are worth less than Delta SkyMiles, so this is only worth your time if your company has legitimate travel spending. If you can meet the requirement of booking a business trip in the first 60 days, the extra 20,000 points will put you well on your way to a meaningful award. Although most redemptions for a free flight cost at least 100,000 points, there seems to be a nice sweet spot for upgrades to Delta Comfort+ or Delta One that should be within reach for even modest spenders.
20,000 points is the highest new-account bonus we've seen for this program, so it's definitely worth taking a look before the July 31st deadline.

I wish there were more of these offers over here in Switzerland…
Own a small business that could qualify, but that whole fly within 60 days component would do us in. 🙁
I wish Delta Skymiles would let you redeem for Czech Airlines flights in Europe! Pretty much just KLM/Air France and Alitalia…
Great if your business has a lot of travel spend and 5+ employees.
Wow, I am going to open an account. I have one for AA.
Too bad it’s for businesses only ?
“SkyBonus points are worth less than Delta SkyMiles”. Could you elaborate on that? I did not think that was possible…
Haha hard to accomplish right? Have a look at the SkyBonus award chart linked in the post. Lot’s of free flight redemptions in the hundreds of thousands of points required, and some breaking the 1 million mark.
AA also runs a similar program too.
Nice double-dip for business and employee to benefit.
Decent bonus, but not a must have for most, I think.
What I like is that my employees can earn their own individual Skymiles, but the company will also earn SkyBonus points for each business trip.
It is unfortunate that you need to have a minimum of 5 employees to qualify for this benefit!
Yea I agree with this. Small businesses should also be able to benefit from programs like this.
The key point here is that the signup bonus is for signing up to the corporate skybonus program and not the general skymiles program.
