What Is Flying Blue Extra?
In short, Flying Blue Extra is a subscription-based benefits program. You can sign up on an annual basis to unlock perks like bonus earnings on paid flights, expanded award availability, lounge access, and more.
In its current form, Flying Blue Extra offers two subscription tiers at different price points. Each plan is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase:

Bonus Flying Blue miles
Depending on the plan, Flying Blue members earn an extra 5 or 10 miles per €10 spent on Air France or KLM airfare during the subscription period.
Normally, members earn 4 to 9 miles per euro spent based on their status level. In practice, this extra 0.5 to 1 mile per euro might not move the needle very much.

Exclusive Promo Rewards
Flying Blue announces new Promo Rewards each month, offering discounted award flights from select gateways. If you’re a Flying Blue Extra subscriber at any tier, you can unlock exclusive access to routes or discounted awards in cabins that aren’t available to non-subscribers.
For example, Flying Blue’s January 2026 Promo Rewards included business-class awards to Europe for 45,000 miles from three airports. However, two of those three airports were available only to Flying Blue Extra subscribers.
Given how difficult these awards can be to snag in the first place, subscriber-only availability is a particularly valuable perk.

Enhanced Cash & Miles redemption rate
Flying Blue allows flyers to use a combination of cash and miles when booking flights. Plan holders receive a 10% discount on the miles required when using this option.
However, this booking method should generally be avoided, even with the discount, since Cash & Miles typically delivers poor value for your miles.
Extended miles validity
All Flying Blue miles remain valid during the subscription period, and any expiring miles are extended through the end of the subscription term.
This can be a meaningful benefit, since Flying Blue miles do expire and are somewhat difficult to extend. In some cases, paying for the Essential plan solely to preserve expiring miles could make sense.
Lounge access vouchers
Plan holders receive two (Essential) or four (Extended) lounge access vouchers for Air France and KLM lounges in Amsterdam, Paris, and Munich. Each voucher is valid for the primary traveler but can be used for a guest traveling on the same booking.
Vouchers are only valid during the subscription period and must be used online by pre-booking lounge access and selecting the voucher as the payment method.

Discount on reward upgrades
Subscribers who use miles to upgrade their flight, whether for a higher cabin, seat selection, extra baggage, or lounge access, receive a 10% discount on the miles required.
However, these upgrades often require a large number of miles and data points suggest values of under one cent per mile, making this a generally poor use of miles.
Discount on award bookings
This perk, available only with the Extended plan, offers 10% off the first two Air France or KLM award bookings during the subscription period. The discount applies to one-way or round-trip bookings and covers all passengers on the reservation.
This can add real value when booking international trips for a larger group, since that 10% savings can add up quickly.
Bonus Experience Points (XP)
Extended plan members earn 20% additional Experience Points (XP) on flights with Air France and KLM. This bonus applies only to the subscriber, not to other passengers on the booking. Since XP are used to earn Flying Blue elite status, this perk can be meaningful for travelers flying on paid fares.
XP earnings per flight typically range from 2X to 60X, depending on distance and cabin. With the 20% bonus, that increases to 2.4X up to 72X, which can accelerate your progress toward a higher status tier.

Is Flying Blue Extra Worth It?
For frequent Air France and KLM flyers, the Flying Blue Extra program shouldn’t be overlooked. Lounge access, bonus miles, and mileage expiration extensions are all valuable perks. However, the real value comes from the Extended tier subscription, which unlocks award ticket discounts and additional XP.
Exclusive Promo Rewards availability is another compelling benefit. Recently, Flying Blue Promo Rewards have included more business-class routes for Flying Blue Extra subscribers, which can be the difference between booking business class instead of economy. Better yet, this perk is available with the Essential subscription.
Lastly, it’s important to note that subscriptions are valid for one year and can't be canceled. They also do not renew automatically. That makes Flying Blue Extra relatively low risk to try for a year, especially for frequent flyers who can maximize the benefits during the subscription period.
