For being such a small country, Malta has no shortage of major brand hotels. But, few feel as fresh — or as well-priced — as the Hyatt Centric Malta. Opened in late 2024, this sleek new property sits just off the highway in St. Julian’s, just a short walk from the bay and surrounded by restaurants, nightlife, and other upscale hotels.

When my wife and I visited Malta last week for a music festival, we chose the Hyatt Centric for its accessible location and Category 2 World of Hyatt award rates (just 6,500 to 9,500 points per night). For our six-night stay, we scored an excellent redemption of almost 3 cents per point. Plus, we applied a Hyatt Suite Upgrade Award to score a spacious suite for our almost-week-long stay.

With Delta launching nonstop flights from New York (JFK) to Malta in 2026, this Mediterranean island is about to get a lot more attention from U.S. travelers. If you’re considering a visit, here’s what to expect from the Hyatt Centric Malta — including whether I’d stay here again.

170 Rooms, Including 22 Suites

The Hyatt Centric Malta is a Category 2 World of Hyatt property. So, you can redeem 6,500 to 9,500 points per night for a standard room, 10,500 to 13,500 for a club-level room, or 11,500 to 14,500 points for a standard suite.

My wife and I redeemed a total of 43,500 Hyatt points for a six-night stay that would have otherwise cost $1,275, netting a redemption rate of 2.93 cents per point.

We applied a suite upgrade award at booking to confirm ourselves into a 592-square-foot one-bedroom suite with a terrace. The suites offer a lot more space than standard rooms, with 1.5 bathrooms and a living room that's separated by sliding doors from the bedroom.

We enjoyed the four-seat table while working, and found the sleeper sofa comfortable for relaxing in front of the large-screen TV. However, there's a noticeable lack of power outlets in the living room, so we're glad we had our power station.

The bedroom is spacious, with a comfortable bed and breathable bedding.

The closets in the suite are open-air.

The bathroom in our suite featured a large bathtub, ample counter space around two sinks, and separate shower and toilet rooms.

The terrace offers seating, but don't expect great views even from higher floors. Instead, you'll get views of other nearby hotels.

Speaking of which, the inland side of the hotel is extremely close to the AC Hotel St. Julians. So, if you end up with a room on that side of the building, you'll likely only see the adjacent hotel from your window.

Club Lounge

Unlike many Hyatt Centric properties, the Hyatt Centric Malta has a club lounge. This ninth-floor club lounge is accessible to guests who book club-level rooms or suites and to Hyatt Globalist members on eligible rates.

The lounge is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. with coffee, tea, juice, water, and soft drinks. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. nightly, the lounge offers snacks and drinks — including beer, wine, and liquor.

Breakfast isn't served in the lounge, but instead offered in the 10th-floor restaurant.

On-site Food and Beverage

The Hyatt Centric Malta has one onsite restaurant, JUMU, on the 10th floor. This restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating, and is where breakfast is served from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. most days (until 11 a.m. on weekends and holidays).

Breakfast consisted of a wide variety of buffet options plus an egg station. In addition to juices and infused water, the hotel even offers sparkling wine in the self-serve drinks area. You know, in case you need a little ‘hair of the dog' after a late night partying in Malta.

You can order food and drinks while lounging at the rooftop pool via a QR code. However, the hotel doesn't have an on-site market or cafe that's open for snacks and drinks outside the restaurant hours. So, you'll need to leave the hotel and walk to a nearby market if you want late-night snacks. Thankfully, there's a 24/7 Dave's market just a few minutes walk away.

2 Pools

Like many hotels in the St. Julians area, the Hyatt Centric Malta has a rooftop pool with ample seating options and views.

But the hotel also has an indoor pool located underground. The indoor pool area was empty and felt calm and relaxing when I visited.

Plus, you'll find a hot tub next to the indoor pool.

The hotel even has a sauna, located underground near the indoor pool.

And on the same floor as the indoor pool is the spa and fitness center.

The fitness center is open 24 hours a day and offers modern equipment in an overly spacious — almost empty-feeling — room.

Location in St. Julians

St. Julians is home to many brands you'll recognize, with Hyatt Regency, AC Hotels, Voco, Ruby, InterContinental, and Holiday Inn Express properties visible from the Hyatt Centric.

The area around the Hyatt Centric Malta isn't particularly authentic or interesting. But St. George's Bay is a short walk downhill if you want to swim in the ocean.

We also enjoyed the walk along the promenade from the Hyatt Centric to Sliema. And St. Julian's proved to be a convenient location for visiting other parts of Malta via ride-hailing apps.

I recommend using eCabs and/or Bolt when in Malta, as Uber was often more expensive. We never paid more than 19.40 euros (about $23) for a ride — including for some rather long rides. That is, until it was raining when we needed to head to the airport, and the price surged to 33 euros (about $38).

Unlike much of the traffic we faced in other parts of the island, the traffic around the Hyatt Centric was usually light enough to get us on our way quickly. This wouldn't have been the case if we'd stayed in the heart of other places we visited, such as St. Paul's Bay, Sliema, or Valletta.

Our Take

The Hyatt Centric Malta is nestled among other hotels in the St. Julian's neighborhood. This location isn't ideal if you want to walk to many sites near your hotel. But if you're looking to drive, use a ride-hailing app, or rely on public buses to get around the island, the location works well.

I'll likely stay at the Hyatt Centric again when I return to Malta — as long as this property is still Category 2. The Hyatt Centric Malta's club lounge was comfortable and offered a solid pre-dinner drinks and snacks service each night. And the rooms and suites are new and comfortable. Just be sure to secure a room with a terrace if you don't want a room facing the side of the adjacent AC Hotel.
