If you want a few extra American Airlines AAdvantage miles or British Airways Avios, but you also value affordable plane tickets, we have some good news. You can now earn miles on select flights operated by LEVEL. Although LEVEL is not a member of the Oneworld alliance, the low-cost carrier operates flights sold by Iberia, which is an alliance member.
Until recently, LEVEL flights were excluded from earning AAdvantage miles — even if marketed by Iberia. But that's not the case anymore.
Here's everything you need to know about the opportunity to earn miles on LEVEL flights.
What Is LEVEL?
LEVEL is a bit of an anomaly. It's a low-cost airline that operates long-haul routes. Based in Spain and owned by the parent company of Iberia and British Airways, it serves five hubs in North America and two hubs in South America out of its base in Barcelona (BCN):
- Boston (BOS)
- New York (JFK)
- Miami (MIA)
- Los Angeles (LAX)
- San Francisco (SFO)
- Buenos Aires (EZE)
- Santiago de Chile (SCL)
As a low-cost carrier, most things — like seat selection, meals, and a checked bag — are add-ons. However, if you're looking for a no-frills, affordable way to cross the Atlantic Ocean, LEVEL has you covered. For instance, a non-stop flight from New York (JFK) to Barcelona (BCN) might cost just $321:
Meanwhile, a comparable Delta-operated flight would cost almost double, at $623, for a Delta Main Basic ticket, which also comes with its own limitations.
You Can Now Earn Miles on Select LEVEL Flights
LEVEL is in the process of becoming its own airline. It was founded in 2017, but it only flew on behalf of Iberia under Iberia's designator code (IB). However, as of December 1, 2025, LEVEL began flying select routes under its own designator code (LL).
This is important to understand, because you can now earn AAdvantage Miles and British Airways Avios on LEVEL flights, but only on those marketed by Iberia under the IB code.
Here's how many British Airways Avios you'll earn on your LEVEL-operated flight (under the IB code):
- Blue members: 5 Avios per €1 spent
- Bronze members: 6 Avios per €1 spent
- Silver members: 7 Avios per €1 spent
- Gold members: 8 Avios per €1 spent
You can also earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points on travel ticketed on Iberia marketed flight numbers IB2600 – IB2699 for LEVEL:
- AAdvantage member: 5 miles per $1
- AAdvantage Gold: 7 miles per $1
- AAdvantage Platinum: 8 miles per $1
- AAdvantage Platinum Pro: 9 miles per $1
- AAdvantage Executive Platinum: 11 miles per $1
Although you can use AAdvantage miles to book award tickets on flights operated by Iberia, you cannot do so for flights operated by LEVEL. This is an earn-only partnership.
Since these benefits only apply on revenue fares, don't forget to pay with a credit card that earns bonus points on airfare. An obvious option is the American Express Platinum Card®, which earns 5X points on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel® (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year) and 5X points on prepaid hotels (including Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection) booked through American Express Travel®.

Bottom Line
LEVEL has long been an exception in American Airlines' mileage earning rules. Although it's a subsidiary of Iberia, LEVEL flights didn't earn AAdvantage miles before this change. Now, you can earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points — as well as British Airlines Avios — on Iberia-marketed LEVEL-operated flights. It's always great to have additional earning opportunities, especially on affordable airlines.
