Oman Air became the 15th member of the Oneworld Alliance in mid 2025. Shortly after joining, American Airlines added the ability to earn AAdvantage® miles on Oman Air-operated flights. However, for the first year of its membership in Oneworld, this was an earn-only partnership. Luckily for travelers, that just changed.
Starting July 31, 2026, you can now redeem American Airlines AAdvantage miles on Oman Air flights. Here's what you need to know.
Why This Partnership Matters
Oman was one of AwardWallet's best places to travel in 2026, so the ability to book Oman Air flights with AAdvantage miles is an excellent addition.
Since there aren't any transferable point currencies that transfer to Oman Air, your options for using points and miles to book an Oman Air flight are limited.
Before this integration, you could use Flying Blue miles to book a ticket thanks to the Oman Air and Flying Blue partnership, or you could use Air Canada Aeroplan points to book Oman Air itineraries. You could also use your Atmos Rewards points to book a Qatar Airways-operated flight to reach Muscat. Now that you can use your AAdvantage miles for a ticket, your award redemption options have significantly increased. Oman Air route map
Keep in mind that Oman Air has a relatively limited route map. If you don't plan on traveling to Oman, you might find that this new partnership has limited utility. One of Oman Air's only fifth freedom routes, connecting Baghdad (BGW) and Copenhagen (CPH), was canceled shortly after it launched due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
If you're in Europe and want to visit Asia, you could book an Oman Air flight with a layover in Muscat if you find a great award redemption. However, with so many other carriers operating routes between Europe and Asia, you might not need to.
AAdvantage Award Rates for Oman Air Flights
The flight between Muscat (MCT) and London (LHR) is the third-longest route that Oman Air operates, falling behind Manila (MNL) and Jakarta (CGK). However, the rates are surprisingly good. You can fly nonstop in economy for 20,000 AAdvantage miles each way or in first class for 62,500 AAdvantage miles. Both classes charge $34.40 in taxes and fees.
A premium seat on this flight normally costs 988.200 OMR (~$2,570), which means you're getting a value of over 4¢ per AAdvantage mile — quite a bit more than the average 2.56¢ apiece AwardWallet users typically get from their miles.
However, Oman Air retired its first class cabin in 2024, so we can assume this ticket is actually for the Business Studio — private suites with top-of-the-line amenities and fine dining. Still, it's a very comfortable way to travel eight hours, and the rates make it accessible.
Short-haul flights seem to be a much worse value proposition. The one-and-a-half-hour flight from Muscat (MCT) to Doha (DOH) will cost 17,500 AAdvantage miles each way in economy or 30,000 miles in business. You can easily book this flight for around 49.000 OMR (~$127) in economy, which gives you a terrible 0.5¢ valuation of your AAdvantage miles.
As you can see, there's a pretty substantial difference in value on Oman Air awards through American Airlines, so you'll want to do the math before booking your flight.
How To Earn AAdvantage Miles

Bottom Line
American Airlines adding Oman Air award redemptions gives AAdvantage members another valuable way to put their miles to work. While Oman Air's route network is relatively small, the airline operates a well-regarded premium product and now offers another option for reaching Oman, as well as destinations across the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
The best value will generally come on Oman Air's longer routes, where rates like 62,500 AAdvantage miles for the carrier's Business Studio can provide excellent value. Short-haul awards are much harder to justify, so it's worth comparing cash fares and other award options before booking. Even if Oman Air won't become your go-to redemption option, it's another welcome addition to the growing list of airlines you can book with AAdvantage miles.
