While these cards may look similar, they're built on different assumptions about how you spend and travel. Let's take a deeper look at how they compare.
Which Card Earns More on Your Spending?
Both cards earn 2X miles or points on everyday purchases, but their overall earning structures differ. The Palladium Card‘s Bilt Cash offers plenty of extra juice if you're willing to squeeze it. On average, AwardWallet users redeem Bilt Points for about 2.1 cents each and Capital One miles for about 2.08 cents each.
Everyday spending is a tie on paper, not in practice
The Capital One Venture X earns a flat 2X miles on all everyday purchases, with no notable exclusions, making it one of the simplest options you can find. The Palladium Card earns 2X Bilt Points on eligible everyday purchases, though there are a few earning restrictions. For example, gift cards from many sites and tax payments aren't eligible to earn points.
However, the Palladium Card lets you redeem $200 in Bilt Cash to earn an extra 1X bonus point per dollar on your next $5,000 in everyday spending. You can choose this up to five times a year, giving you a 3X return on up to $25,000 in spending as long as you redeem your Bilt Cash for this option. As long as you're not spending your Bilt Cash heavily on other redemptions, you may be able to earn enough to fund another $200 accelerator.
Welcome offers
Welcome offers also work differently. The Capital One Venture X offers a simpler, lump-sum bonus: Earn 75,000 Miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

- 10X miles per $1 on hotels and rental cars booked via Capital One Travel
- 5X miles per $1 on purchases through Capital One Entertainment
- 5X miles per $1 on flights when booking via Capital One Travel
- 5X miles per $1 on vacation rentals booked via Capital One Travel
- 2X miles per $1 on all other eligible purchases
The Palladium Card bundles several pieces together instead, offering 50,000 Bilt Points + Gold Status after spending $4,000 on everyday purchases in the first 3 months + $300 of Bilt Cash.

- Earn points on housing payments with no transaction fee
- Choose to earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday spend. Use Bilt Cash to unlock point earnings on rent and mortgage payments with no transaction fee, up to 1X.
- 2X points on everyday spend
- $400 Bilt Travel Hotel credit. Applied twice a year, as $200 statement credits, for qualifying Bilt Travel Portal hotel bookings.
- $200 Bilt Cash (awarded annually). At the end of each calendar year, any Bilt Cash balance over $100 will expire.
- Welcome bonus (subject to approval): 50,000 Bilt Points + Gold Status after spending $4,000 on everyday purchases in the first 90 days + $300 of Bilt Cash.
- Priority Pass ($469/year value). See Guide to Benefits.
- Bilt Point redemptions include airlines, hotels, future rent and mortgage payments, Lyft rides, statement credits, student loan balances, a down payment on a home, and more.
- Choose to earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday spend. Use Bilt Cash to unlock point earnings on rent and mortgage payments with no transaction fee, up to 1X.
- 2X points on everyday spend
Getting full value from the Palladium offer takes a little more work, since Bilt status and Bilt Cash each have their own uses.
Factoring in the housing payment math
The Capital One Venture X doesn't earn points on rent or mortgage payments unless you pay a fee. But the Palladium Card has an entire system built around earning points on rent and mortgage payments with no transaction fee. For a deeper look at how the card works, read our full Palladium Card review.
Under the Palladium Card‘s flexible Bilt Cash option, you earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday spending and can redeem that Bilt Cash to unlock up to 1X Bilt Points on housing payments. Every $30 in Bilt Cash unlocks 1,000 Bilt Points.
Under the housing-only option, you skip Bilt Cash entirely and instead earn up to 1.25X points on housing payments, based on how much you spend elsewhere as a percentage of your monthly housing payment.
You'll earn:
- 0.5X points per $1 spent if you spend at least 25% of your housing payment on the card
- 0.75X points per $1 spent if you spend at least 50% of your housing payment on the card
- 1X points per $1 spent if you spend at least 75% of your housing payment on the card
- 1.25X points per $1 spent if you spend at least 100% of your housing payment on the card
If you don't reach the 25% threshold, you'll earn a minimum of 250 Bilt Points for that billing cycle.
Neither option is automatic. You have to pick one and actively manage it, which is a different kind of commitment than swiping a flat-rate card and moving on.

Card Benefits and Features
Beyond the base earnings, these cards build their value differently. The Capital One Venture X leans on simplicity, while the Palladium Card spreads its value across credits and Bilt Cash. Here's how the two stack up.
Credits and protections
The Venture X's credits keep things simple. You'll get:
- $300 annual Capital One Travel credit
- 10,000 anniversary
bonus miles - Up to $120 toward Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.
It also provides primary rental car coverage and complimentary Hertz President's Circle status.
For a full breakdown of the card, read our Capital One Venture X review.
Both cards also include trip delay and trip cancellation/interruption protection, so travelers aren't giving up coverage by picking the simpler option.
The Palladium takes a more complicated approach. It offers:
- $400 in Bilt Travel hotel credit, split into two $200 semi-annual statement credits. These credits also require a stay of at least two nights.
- $200 in Bilt Cash annually, with up to $100 allowed to roll into the next year.
The Palladium’s World Legend
Travel portals
Both cards come with access to their own travel portals. The Capital One Venture X earns 10X on hotels and rental cars and 5X on flights and vacation rentals through Capital One Travel. It also earns 5X on activities booked through Capital One Travel.
The Palladium Card dearns 4X on hotels and 3X on flights booked through the Bilt Travel Portal. The Capital One Venture X still offers the stronger portal earning rates overall.
However, redeeming Bilt Points through the Bilt Travel Portal is worth 1.25 cents per point, and Capital One miles are only worth 1 cent per point through Capital One Travel. Both are well below the value you can get when transferring to partners. It's usually worth pricing out a transfer redemption, if one is available, before booking through the portal.

Lounge access
Both cards include Priority Pass lounge access, but that's where the similarity ends. Since February 1, 2026, Capital One Venture X personal cardholders no longer get complimentary Priority Pass guests. Bringing someone along now costs $35 per guest, per visit. Authorized users can still be added for free, but lounge access costs $125 per additional cardholder annually.
Guests at Capital One Lounges and Landing locations cost $45 for adults and $25 for those 17 and under, unless the cardholder spends $75,000 or more in a calendar year, at which point complimentary guest access becomes available again.
The Palladium Card includes Priority Pass for the cardholder plus two guests per visit at no charge, with additional guests beyond that at $35 each.
For anyone who regularly travels with a partner, kids, or friends, these additional costs pile up fast.
Transfer partners
Both currencies offer a comprehensive list of airline and hotel partners. Capital One has 22 transfer partners: 18 airlines and four hotels. You can also redeem your miles for statement credits for qualifying travel purchases made on your card.
Bilt has 24 transfer partners, including 17 airlines and seven hotels. Bilt also runs regular Rent Day promotions with transfer bonuses, something Capital One has no equivalent for.
Some partners overlap, but each card has unique options. Personal preference for one partner list over the other could decide which card is better for many. For example, if you prefer staying with
Capital One might make more sense if you can leverage its international travel partners.
Which Card Should You Get?
There's no universal winner here, as many aspects of these cards come down to your personal preferences. If you match the card to the situation instead:
- If you rent or carry a mortgage and are willing to work the system: Palladium Card
- If you travel with a partner, kids, or friends: Palladium Card
- If you want a card that works with minimal effort: Capital One Venture X
- If Hyatt is your hotel program of choice: Palladium Card
- If you book through a card's travel portal often: Capital One Venture X
- If you're wary of a newer, still-evolving program: Capital One Venture X
Bottom Line
As with many premium cards, the better card is the one that returns the most value for your personal situation.
The Capital One Venture X makes sense for people who want simple, dependable earnings and don't want to think much about what their card does and doesn't do. The Palladium Card rewards people willing to do a little legwork, especially anyone already paying rent or a mortgage who can route that payment through Bilt. Consider which card’s credits, transfer partners, and earning structure fit your spending best.
