Citi and
Today, Citi has announced that more cards in the AAdvantage® lineup are getting a refresh. Beginning January 24, 2027, Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® and Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ World Elite Mastercard® holders will have access to new or enhanced benefits, but these come at a cost. Both cards will have an increased annual fee of $150 — up from the current $99 annual fee.
Here's what to know about this refresh.
AA Platinum Select Refresh Details
The new AA Platinum Select will offer a variety of new and enhanced benefits.
Earning potential
To start, the AA Platinum Select‘s earning potential is getting a lot better:
- New: 3X AAdvantage miles on eligible AAdvantage Hotels bookings made on aadvantagehotels.com and eligible AAdvantage Cars bookings made on aadvantagecars.com.
- New: 2X AAdvantage miles on select streaming services.
- New: 2X AAdvantage miles on eligible Rides and Rails™ purchases.
- Enhanced: 2X AAdvantage miles at gas stations, now expanded to include EV charging stations.
- 2X AAdvantage miles on eligible American Airlines purchases.
- 2X AAdvantage miles at restaurants.
- 1X AAdvantage miles on all other purchases.
The opportunity to earn
You'll still earn 1 Loyalty Point for every 1 eligible AAdvantage mile earned from purchases.
New and enhanced benefits
Cardholders can now enjoy a variety of new credits and benefits, including:
- Enhanced: Earn a $150 American Airlines Flight Discount after spending $20,000 or more in purchases during your cardmember year and renewing your card (up from a $125 discount).
- New: Up to $120 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credit every four years.
- New: Up to $100 back in statement credits annually on in-flight purchases.
- New: Complimentary annual Walmart+ membership for primary cardmembers.

- New: Travel protections, including Trip Delay Protection, Trip Cancellation & Interruption Protection, Worldwide Car Rental Insurance, and Lost Baggage Protection
If you don't spend $20,000 on your card each year, an extra $25 in flight discounts isn't a huge deal. However, the new $100 statement credit on in-flight purchases and Walmart+ membership add real value.
Unchanged perks
Your new and enhanced benefits are in addition to existing cardholder benefits, including:
- Up to $180 annually on Turo car rentals (up to $30 in statement credits for each eligible Turo car rental trip completed).
- 10% savings on eligible American Airlines Vacations travel packages.
- Preferred boarding on American Airlines flights for the primary cardmember and up to four companions traveling on the same reservation.
- First checked bag free on domestic American Airlines itineraries for the primary cardmember and up to four companions traveling on the same reservation.
- No foreign transaction fees.

With these perks, it's easy to justify the annual fee of $99, waived for first 12 months.
- Free checked bags for you and up to 4 companions on domestic itineraries
- Priority boarding to help you win the race for overhead bin space
- A 25% discount on inflight food, beverage, and Wi-Fi purchases

Bottom Line
On paper, these updates are positive. While the annual fee is slightly higher, the new perks can outweigh the extra cost. Both cards offer better earning potential and new or improved benefits. And unlike many card refreshes, Citi didn't remove any perks to make room for new benefits.
However, not all cardholders will be able to realize the extra value on these cards. These cardholders will need to decide whether the refreshed cards are worth the higher annual fee.
