While we've seen this offer before, the 30% coupon code for use on eligible flights makes this a uniquely good time to consider adding the card to your wallet.
Based on recent AwardWallet user redemptions, the value of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles is approximately 2.11¢ apiece. How To Maximize This Alaska Visa Card Offer
To give you an idea of just how valuable this bonus is, let's review some of the best uses of Alaska Mileage Plan miles.
Short-haul routes from 4,500 Alaska miles
A sneaky good way to redeem Alaska miles is on short-haul flights on itineraries under 700 miles. You'll pay just 4,500 miles if you sit in economy, or 9,000 miles if you want to sit in the pointy end of the plane.
If you live near a small regional airport, these cheap flights can come in handy — especially if cash costs for the same flight are pretty high. Or, you can use this Alaska sweet spot to position yourself for a more lucrative award redemption.

Fly from the U.S. West Coast to Hawaii from 9,000 Alaska miles
Hawaii is a popular vacation hotspot — and for good reason. What if we told you that you could fly there for as little as 9,000 Alaska miles? You can lock in a major bargain depending on when you intend to travel and where you originate. San Diego to Honolulu at 9,000 miles per way is an exceptional deal.

One-way business class to Europe from 45,000 Alaska miles
Want to fly internationally instead? The welcome bonus on the Alaska Visa Card can help you do just that. One-way tickets to Europe in lie-flat business class start at 45,000 miles per way.
This sweet spot unlocks flights such as Boston to Dublin, Philadelphia to Zurich, New York to London, and many more for a fantastic price.

Lie-flat seats to Tahiti for 60,000 Alaska miles
Perhaps you've been to Europe, or you want to visit somewhere a little more far-flung than Hawaii. How about Tahiti?
Air Tahiti Nui flies from Seattle and Los Angeles to Papeete. And you can book award tickets on both routes with Alaska miles. The pricing is pretty good, too, starting at 30,000 miles in economy, 45,000 in premium economy, or 60,000 in lie-flat business class.
There's no better way to start your Tahitian vacation than arriving in style and lightening the burden on your wallet.

Round-trip economy to Japan from 75,000 Alaska miles
You probably get the point by now. There's a lot you can do with Alaska miles — and the value you can unlock is second to none. But we'll try one more example on for size.
If you don't mind flying coach, you can book a round-trip ticket from the U.S. West Coast to Tokyo for 75,000 miles. That'll require a few more miles than your sign-up bonus provides, but with the card's valuable sending categories, it should be a piece of cake to come up with the extra miles — especially if it means booking an otherwise expensive cash fare for just $76 out of pocket.

Earn Alaska Miles on Everyday Purchases
With the Alaska Visa Card, you'll earn miles as follows:
- Earn unlimited 3 miles for every $1 spent on eligible Alaska Airlines purchases
- Earn unlimited 2 miles for every $1 spent on eligible gas, EV charging stations, cable, streaming services and local transit (including ride share) purchases
- Earn unlimited 1 mile for every $1 spent on all other eligible purchases
Plus, if you have deposit or banking accounts with Bank of America, you could be eligible for a 10% bonus on these earning rates.
If the balance of your accounts with Bank of America eclipses six figures, it's also worth looking into the Bank of America Preferred Rewards program and the bank's suite of cashback cards, which can help you enhance your travel rewards strategy even further.
Who's Eligible for the Alaska Visa Card?
The Alaska Visa Card is issued by Bank of America. A few rules are important to understand before you apply:
- The Bank of America 2/3/4 rule means you can't be approved for more than two BOA cards in a two-month period, three cards in 12 months, and four cards in 24 months.
- Travelers with Bank of America deposit accounts will be denied if they've opened seven or more new credit cards (across all banks) in the past 12 months. For those without Bank of America deposit accounts, you'll be denied if you've opened three or more new cards (across all banks) in the past 12 months.
- Most cards have a 24-month waiting period from the last time you earned a welcome bonus on that same card.

Final Thoughts
Alaska Airlines miles are some of the most valuable miles you can hold, even if you don't plan to visit the namesake state or fly with the airline. Alaska Airlines is a Oneworld alliance member, but Alaska's partnerships go far beyond the dozen Oneworld airlines. And maximizing your redemptions goes further with the ability to book free stopovers on one-way flights.
