Terms and Conditions

  • Eligible flights are only those marketed by American Airlines and operated by American or American Eagle.
  • Codeshare flights are not eligible for this promotion.
  • Non-flight awards — such as upgrade awards — aren’t eligible for this promotion.
  • You must complete travel to get the rebate. So, canceling your flight will prevent you from getting the rebate.
  • Ensure to use your AAdvantage number at the time of booking.
  • Tickets booked for passengers other than yourself will not be eligible for this promotion.
  • To receive the AAdvantage promotion award miles, your AAdvantage credit card account must be open, active, and in good standing at all times. If your card account is closed for any reason, you will no longer be eligible for this offer.
  • This promotion doesn’t count toward elite status qualification or AAdvantage Million Miler status.

Our Take

Depending on your flight, a 400-mile rebate might not be a big deal. But if you can book some inexpensive award flights this summer, getting 1,600 back can be a nice bonus.

If you value AAdvantage miles around 1 cent each, you're only getting about $4 back per flight. However, that's better than nothing. If you already have flights you can take, all you need to do is register for this promotion to collect and collect your rebate.

Are you planning on taking any American Airlines this summer that you can book this week to take advantage of this deal?

  • Excellent promotion! Always with AA

  • Francisco says:

    Excellent. Thanks!.

  • Walter Frañó says:

I like all the American Airlines promotions. They are always the best, which is why American Airlines has my loyalty …

  • Uriel Gulich says:

I think that the 1,600 mile extra credit (about $16) is not sufficient to change my travel preference. For example, I would still compare the price of the ticket (in dollars) to the miles requirement of that flight (miles required). Typically, if a flight costs $500 and requires 25,000 miles, I would use the miles. If the flight only costs $230, I would probably pay for the flight regardless of whether I get an extra 1,600 miles or not.

Right now prices of tickets are very high, so in most cases miles is the way to go regardless of the bonus of 1,600 miles back.

  • Sindi Day says:

One more day – going to have to check my calendar!

  • Demetris says:

Good information. Thanks! I registered for the promotion.

  • I was really excited about this since I’m about to book a flight for my best friend’s wedding…and then I read that it only applies to AA credit card holders. Bummer. The promotional period for completing the flight is also pretty short. Sounds like they’re trying to get people back on their planes and quickly.

  • This promotion is available only for AA Advantage cardholders in US?

    • JT Genter says:

Looks like it. The terms and conditions note that “This offer is valid for Citi® / AAdvantage® and AAdvantage® Aviator® Mastercard® credit cardholders with accounts open at the time of the promotion”

  • I’m disappointed that this promotion is only available when using an AA credit card, because we are booking 2 flights using AA miles during the promotional period, but no longer have an AA credit card.

  • Just saw this and not enough time to plan a trip!

  • Heather M Caulfield says:

Only 400 points is not really worth it, especially with such a small window of time. June-July? I would rather save my miles.

  • It is a shame that the travel dates for this promotion end by July 31. I am planning to fly to the US last week of August, which means about +800 miles trip. I look forward to finding another deal during my travel period. Thanks any way to keep us posted.

  • This promotion will help to add additional miles and it’s really a bonus to post and not let existing points expire.

  • Gus Gatto says:

Great! Good news but I wish the offer was for a longer time, so that it can be used for the next holidays.

  • Time to prepare for a summer vacation already? 🙂

  • david fenimore says:

This is a nice little bonus for a friend who just mentioned that that she was about to book 2-3 mileage trips, all 4 segment, within the time frame and meets requirements of using AA card. Nice 3200-4800 mile bonus for her!

  • Richard Harrison says:

    Perfect Timing!

  • Gabriel santarelli says:

Do you know if the promo can work together with the monthly discount promo rewards the AA offers? It could be a great deal having both applying. Txs

  • Paul A Day says:

    Perfect timing!

  • A friend has to make several essential flights on AA, so I’ll be sure to pass on this information to him.

  • The promotion should be longer. People actually take summer vacations till the beginning of September.

  • AA’s marketing for Aadvantage 40th anniversary has been more effective than United Mileage Plus.

  • I used to earn miles through my Visa and Amex from Santander but seems that the bank actually canceled that agreement. So nowadays I can only earn miles flying or booking a car, etc.

  • The rebate represents another opportunity to extend the mileage balance expiration date.

    • JT Genter says:

True! You’ll get an expiration bump when you redeem your miles, but the rebate posting will push it out even further!

  • Jennifer says:

I just wish that they did not require that you have to have american airlines co branded credit card.

  • Wouldn’t go out of my way to make use of but I’ll take it if I’m going to travel some place anyway.

  • Gilberto says:

AA has been offering several good deals for their regular passenger . Thumbs up!

  • Easy way to get some miles back, ill take it. Thanks AA!

  • Again, for US residents only, despite holding an AAdvantage co branded credit card from a different country

  • Well, if you’re booking a flight anyway, this is a nice bonus, but seriously, this is not nearly enough of an incentive to just book a trip out of the blue……really AA?

  • I wonder whether this promotion can be double stacked with the monthly discount promotion awards.

    • JT Genter says:

Are you referencing Reduced Mileage Awards? If so, it should! That’s how I’m planning on redeeming AA miles this summer.

  • The promotion is definitely great for the US-based AAdvantage members.

  • John Robinson says:

I agree with your assessment of this deal – BUT every little bit helps and I certainly will be registering!

  • I’ll have to explore these cards. I don’t think any of them are the right fit for me though living at a United hub.

  • Gabriel santarelli says:

Hi. Great offer. Will it be another offer beyond May dates?
    Thank you

  • Maryjane says:

I signed up but I doubt I’m going to participate. You never know when plans will change so it’s worthwhile to take the time to register.

  • Emily Davidson says:

If I’m reading this right, then it’s not a deal worth a lot unless you’re traveling a lot this summer and using an AA credit card….

    • JT Genter says:

You don’t necessarily need to use an AA card – but you do need to have one to be eligible for this promotion.
