Flying Blue (the award program for Air France, KLM, and other airlines) lowered its mileage requirements for transatlantic travel in late 2022. This kind of news stands out compared to the seemingly constant devaluations in award travel. Flying Blue also makes it easy to seek out the lowest award prices. This is thanks to the ability to search a broad range of dates that already exists: the open dates award calendar.
Here's how to use the Flying Blue award calendar to find the cheapest award flights available.
How To Access the Flying Blue Award Calendar
Accessing the Flying Blue open dates award calendar is quite straightforward. On the award search screen, you need to do (or not do) two things:
- Don't select a date, regardless of if you're booking one-way or round-trip.
- Search for only one passenger. Searching for multiple passengers prompts Flying Blue to require a travel date or dates, which negates the first requirement.
Following these two steps should yield a calendar view of results.
Using the open date award calendar, travelers enjoy the ability to view the lowest award prices for their itinerary of choice for more than half a year at a time. Color coding highlights the cheapest awards.
Alternative Award Calendar Access Avenue
Does Flying Blue still only show results for a specific date or week's worth of dates when you search? You can force the site to show the open dates award calendar by changing the URL. If you're seeing just one date of search results, the URL starts with the following:
https://wwws.airfrance.us/search/offers?bookingFlow
Change “offers” to “open-dates” in the URL bar and hit enter. Then, the open dates award calendar should populate.
Why Does This Matter?
Flexible travel dates allow travelers the best chance to score the best flights using points and miles. It also helps travelers take advantage of promotional pricing, such as the monthly Flying Blue Promo Rewards. Accessing a calendar view of dates — including easily checking several months in a matter of seconds — makes the award search process that much more efficient. This is so much better than seeing just one day or week at a time.
Unfortunately, searching this way might return results that are good for a single traveler when those doing the searching may want to travel with others. After noting some dates with the cheapest prices, you'll need to start a new search for the correct number of people in your group to determine which date is best.
Our Take
The Flying Blue open dates award calendar makes searching award space for desired routes a breeze. Whether a journey requires a one-way or round-trip itinerary, accessing a calendar of dates improves efficiency. It also increases the value of your points and miles when you redeem fewer of them for the same trip.

Thanks, that’s a good tip.
The first suggestion did not work. I am not sure how to edit the url with the second suggestion. I click on the link but t won’t let me edit. IPad 12.
Madeline, if you click in the bar that shows your URL (the place where you can type a website you want to go to), does it now show you the entire website page name? If so, click in the area to change. Let us know if that doesn’t help.
I know this works on windows desktop. I know it does not on the app as you cannot proceed without choosing a date. Is there a work-around for the app? It’s what most people use evidently.
Ah bummer. I’m not aware of a workaround in the app.
