American Express announced the addition of three new merchants to the American Express® Gold Card $10 monthly dining credit. This expansion brings the total number of eligible restaurant merchants to eight. However, two of these options were dropped as of August 1, 2022.

Here are the full details of the changes to the Amex Gold dining credit.

How the Amex Gold Dining Credit Works

First, you need to enroll your Amex Gold card to take advantage of the dining credit program. Using your computer to enroll, you need to log into your American Express account and navigate to the “Rewards and Benefits” section. Once there click on the “Benefits,” you should then be able to see the $120 dining credit enrollment option.

If you prefer, you can also enroll for the $120 dining credit on the American Express mobile app, where you can find the option to enroll under the “Explore All Card Benefits” section.

Keep in mind the statement credit does not appear immediately in your account. American Express says you should allow for up to 8 weeks for it to appear. However, cardmembers will typically see the credit post to their account in a matter of days.

Our Take

Anytime more options are added to a credit card or loyalty program, it is great news. More options mean more opportunities to take advantage of this card benefit.

Registering for the credit should be a no-brainer. Maximizing it every year will pick up $120 in statement credits, roughly half of the card's annual fee. If you also maximize the $120 annual Uber cash credits, that is almost the entire $250 annual fee (Rates & Fees) covered before taking advantage of any of the card's other perks and benefits. Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.

  • What good news, every new eligible merchant will welcome. More choices more chances to use this credit, and why not compensate for the annual fee. Good news AMEX, keep going and expand eligible merchants. And wine merchant, I love good wine.
