Running a business often means looking for ways to maximize value in every corner: cutting unnecessary costs, stretching your dollars, and getting the most out of every tool in your wallet. If you carry The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, there’s a practical perk that’s easy to overlook but worth taking advantage of.

You can use your card to get up to $120 in statement credits per year (up to $10 back per month) for wireless telephone service purchases made directly with a wireless provider in the U.S. It may not be the card’s flashiest feature, but it’s an easy way to offset a regular expense, if you know how to use it correctly.

Here’s what you need to know to maximize this benefit on your Business Platinum Card.

What Is the Amex Business Platinum Wireless Credit?

Put simply, American Express will reimburse you up to $10 per month in the form of statement credits when you pay your U.S. wireless telephone bill with your Business Platinum Card. If maximized, this can amount to a total of $120 in credits per calendar year.

However, this isn’t an automatic perk. Before taking advantage of it, you'll need to enroll your card. But just keep in mind that only the “Basic Card Member” (primary cardmember) or an authorized account manager can do this.

Once enrolled, you can then use your card (or employee cards on the same account) to pay for wireless telephone service purchases made directly with a wireless provider in the U.S., and you'll earn up to $10 per month worth of statement credits. It's that easy.

What Purchases Qualify for the Amex Wireless Credit?

To receive the monthly Amex wireless statement credit, you must use your enrolled Business Platinum Card to pay for wireless telephone service charges. Charges must be billed directly by a U.S.-based wireless provider. Here's what qualifies, and what doesn’t.

Eligible charges

  • Purchases for monthly wireless telephone service charges made directly from a wireless telephone service provider in the United States and U.S. Territories

Ineligible charges

  • Hardware or equipment purchases, such as phones, tablets, or accessories
  • Bundled services that include TV, internet, or VoIP
  • Charges from Google Fi, or payments made through third parties, marketplaces, or retailers
  • Any transaction not coded specifically as a wireless telephone service provider

In short, paying your actual wireless bill directly through your provider’s billing system is the best way to ensure you receive the credit.

How to Enroll for the Business Platinum Card Monthly Wireless Credit

Enrolling in the Business Platinum Card monthly wireless credit benefit is easy. Start by logging into your American Express online account. From the top menu, select Rewards & Benefits, then click Benefits.

Scroll down until you see the benefits listed under Your Benefit Highlights. Find the one marked Wireless Credit and click to enroll.

There is no need to specify which wireless carrier or to renew your enrollment.  Once you've opted in, you're all set. Amex states that statement credits can take 6-8 weeks to arrive after your purchase posts. However, my experience is that it posts much sooner.

Can You Stack the Savings?

While the credit can be triggered with either the main cardholder's card or any employee cards, only one credit can be earned per month on each account. Therefore, stacking is not possible within a single account.

However, if you hold more than one Business Platinum Card, you can put one $10 payment on one card (or more than one) and then pay the rest with your other card. In this way, you can trigger the monthly credit on both accounts.

Don't Forget About Cell Phone Protection

In addition to the monthly statement credit, cardmembers who pay their wireless bill with the Business Platinum Card will also receive cell phone protection against theft and damage, including cracked screens.

Coverage includes up to $800 per approved claim, with a maximum of two claims per card account every 12 months. A $50 deductible applies to each claim. See your terms for exclusions that may apply.

Final Thoughts

The wireless credit on theBusiness Platinum Card is a simple, set-it-and-forget-it way to get value from a recurring business expense. If you’re already paying for wireless service each month (and let’s be honest, you probably are), it makes sense to use your Business Platinum Card to earn this $10 monthly credit. Furthermore, using your card for your wireless bills also unlocks valuable cell phone protection, which can end up being real money savers in the long run.

Small savings like this may seem minor in isolation, but over time, they contribute to the overall efficiency and value of your business spending. And when you’re managing a business, consistent wins like these can really add up.
