CVS Pharmacy is the largest chain of pharmacies in the U.S., operating nearly 10,000 locations nationwide. While CVS is ostensibly a pharmacy, it also sells a wide range of general goods.
CVS has its own loyalty program, CVS ExtraCare, which has its own points currency, CVS ExtraBucks. Sadly, like many loyalty points currencies, they do expire and don’t last forever.
Do CVS ExtraCare Rewards Expire?
Yes, CVS ExtraBucks Rewards expire a mere 90 days from the end of the calendar quarter in which they are earned. Per the CVS Help page:
“Your 2% back in ExtraBucks Rewards expire 90 days from the end of each calendar quarter following their date of issue (March 31, June 30, September 30, December 31). You must redeem ExtraBucks Rewards before their stated expiration date.”

Purchases That Earn CVS ExtraBucks
Sadly, you do not earn 2% back across the board on CVS purchases; you only earn on qualifying purchases. The list of purchases that don't qualify is extensive and includes:
- Alcohol, bottle deposits, and bag fees
- CarePass membership fees
- Bus and transit passes
- CVS Photo purchases
- Certain CVS Optical® purchases
- Prepaid phones and accessories

Our Take
90 days is on the short side of things for expiration policies we track. Clearly, CVS designed its loyalty program with the idea that you will earn and burn your ExtraBucks very quickly. That said, if you are regular at CVS, then it should be no problem to turn over your CVS ExtraCare Rewards rapidly.
