Delta is holding a one-way domestic award sale through July 18, 2016. Valid for flights within the continental U.S. and Alaska, the sale covers economy and Comfort+ classes on over 8,000 routes, with flights starting from 5,000 SkyMiles + taxes and fees.
The Good
Selecting a random 5,000 SkyMiles flight from the list of examples provided, we searched flights from Chicago-Midway (MDW) to Minneapolis (MSP) for September and turned up the lowest price of $133.10. Based on 5,000 miles plus taxes + fees of $5.60, that's 2.55 cents per mile which is a solid value for SkyMiles.
The Bad
The promotion is almost identical to the award sale Delta ran in May, again with 8000+ destinations, with the same inherent problem. It's hard to know which flights are on sale when we can't compare them to an award chart. Is it possible to have a sale without publishing the original price?
While we are provided a list of examples, only two of the 5,000-mile fares show on this chart. The rest require you to search them out manually.

Final Thoughts
If the dates match up with future travel plans, it is certainly worth searching Delta for a good fare. 8,000 destinations cover a lot of ground.
Alternatively, if you have an immense amount of time and patience to comb through flights on Delta and compare fares, this sale will most likely throw up some deals where you can save a pretty penny; possibly even in the Comfort+ cabin.
