Every quarter, IHG Rewards launches an updated promotion, IHG® Rewards Club PointBreaks®, where you can cash in your IHG Rewards for only 5,000 points per night at select properties. This list is valid for bookings and stays between April 24, and July 31, 2017. With the promotion, you can book a room at any of the hotels on the list for 5,000 points per night. While IHG does not put some of its best properties on the IHG PointBreaks list, they do sprinkle it with some great property options, which makes this one of the best hotel promotions out there.

How to Earn IHG Rewards

Picking up IHG Rewards Club points is easy. Apart from staying at IHG hotels, you can pick up the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card which earns 60,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. The card also gives you Platinum Elite status (which ensures your IHG Rewards points won't expire), all for an annual fee of $49. The bonus points from picking up the card are worth 12 nights using the PointBreaks Promotion.

Our Take

The PointBreaks promotion is definitely one of the most rewarding hotel promotions available; it is worth your while to go through the hotel list and see if there are any properties that grab your interest. One thing to remember is that the number of rooms at each hotel during the promotion is limited, and the best ones get snapped up, so if you see something you like then hurry and book ASAP.

  • IHG PointBreaks probably aren’t what they were when first starting out, but there’s value there. If you’re traveling, they are always worth a glance. The Helen, GA option for example is a great value for a unique location.

  • Agreed. Looks like it’s getting harder to find quality redemptions with PointBreaks. Looks like I’ll wait til the next go-round.

  • I was able to book three different IHG hotels with 5000 points per night. For two of my reservations I had to slightly modify my dates as Friday and Saturday were not available.

  • Always love seeing this promotion!

  • Binita Patel says:

Some great value here if any of the locations work with your travel plans….

  • ANGELO FONSECA says:

I just love the Holyday Inn Hotels. It is cheap and confortable.

  • I see 5-10 good possibilities of redemption.
As it happens during the latest 2-3 years there is no property that interest me because I have already visited the town where the property is located.

  • Is there a certain time each year when the 80K offer comes back?

  • Bill from Maine says:

Finally a hotel in Maine on PointBreaks. I just made a reservation in Waterville and saved myself a few dollars. I agree with Jamie that the hotel offers aren’t what they used to be but nonetheless offer great value, especially if you happen to be traveling to an area where you find a participating hotel, in my case Waterville Maine.

  • Actually some good ones on this list.

  • Program is not what it once was. About to let 2k points go. Very unlike me. any suggestions?

  • Is there any catch to redeeming through the PointsBreaks program, or would it be automatic with an IHG program membership?

  • I kept checking one hotel on the list, never see 5K and then finally it just said rewards nights sold out…

  • Adam Parsons says:

Some great offers here, buy also the points at 30% off to bag some real bargains out there.

  • Hardik Ruparelia says:

I am planning to book Budapest and Berlin through this promotion. Not sure how many nights can be booked at a stretch

    • It’s supposed to be two nights per hotel. I’ve done it as single nights for up to four nights in a row and didn’t have any problem with my reservations being cancelled or anything.

  • Unfortunately there’s not much of interest this time, a comment I can cut-and-paste from the last few Point Breaks lists…

  • As many commentators have already mentioned above this is one of the weakest promotions in years and it’s important to note that traditionally IHG were offering better pointsbreak deals in winter when the demand is lower than in summer. So, this round spanning over months of June, July and next promo covering August wil be far from spectacular.

  • It is interesting that a lot of these are airport properties. They might be a great use as an ending point to a vacation if you have to fly out early in the morning from that airport.

I vaguely remember reading something about award nights counting towards elite qualifying nights. Point breaks stays would be a great way for someone to get the last few Elite Qualifying nights they need. Though, as many people have pointed out, status at the IHG hotels doesn’t bring a lot of benefits.

  • PointBreaks seems not as good as before

  • Nice deals, but I wish the Holiday Inns in our area weren’t so run down – makes it hard to trust them elsewhere.

  • Bertrand Say says:

The list keeps getting worse each time they put it out.

  • So are these PointBreaks new every month? Or every week?

  • I was able to swap out a stay in Helskini before an early morning flight back to US, pointsbreaks is awesome when you already have a stay planned!

  • I have never seen these. Good heads up for info. Maybe they’ll have it when I am traveling next time…heehee. Nothing I can use this time. Maybe will still use them anyway in August. I am getting the impression that IHG had better offers before. *sigh* everything seems to devalue over time.

  • Less and less impressive but still a good deal.

  • The_Bouncer says:

Grabbed 3 nights in Strasbourg in June. Only 3 hours drive for me. I think that will do me for this quarter.

  • I know that IHG won’t credit points for reservations made through third parties. I recently made a reservation via hotels.com. Is there any way around this to earn points?

  • It has become a joke. I’d rather see them increase it to 10K and actually have some useful redemption options.

  • I’ve found some great deals with these including 2 stays in Copenhagen

  • Not much of use to me again.

  • thanks for the list- that’s helpful. would love to go to krabi

  • I have yet to find any relevant/usable options for me…

  • Pieter-Jan says:

The value these IHG Pointbreaks have is potentially huge. One of my best Holiday Inn stays (in Abu Dhabi) was on Pointbreaks. Amazing value for just 5000 points.

  • ROBERT CORRAO says:

I love that IHG offers this promotion but they should add some higher quality properties in the list to make it more compelling.

  • The locations in Canada were actually pretty good. I say “were” because there were originally 6 but when I just checked the website, there were only 2 left. I guess the others have already sold out.

St John’s Newfoundland is spectacular in the summer and if I weren’t already traveling to other locations, I would have booked those nights already.

  • Stayed in Gent, Belgium last quarter because of this promotion. Cool little city I wouldn’t have seen without IHG.

  • This is a great promotion that I have used a few times when travelling to DC! Always nice to rack up some points for something I would be doing anyway!

  • The_Bouncer says:

I’m quite impressed at how long some of the better properties remained available this time around. With the last few lists, some properties disappeared within minutes.

  • Robert Haney says:

The US Alexandria is not bad. That is a nice stop when driving long distance on i95.

  • The PointBreaks list is shrinking with every offer. This time it’s only 100 hotels.

In the previous rounds we had following number of hotels for offer 130, 141, 171, 185, 160, 146.

  • I took advantage of a property in a place I’m going to visit anyway on a road trip.
