Realizing IHG’s announcement in late 2017, you can now book Kimpton properties using IHG Rewards. In light of the recent price hike of IHG redemptions, this is good news, since it adds a portfolio of over 60 boutique hotels to the IHG property list, increasing your choice and options.
What Are The Prices?
As expected with the quality of Kimpton properties, rooms have been priced between 40,000 and 70,000 points per night. And while 70,000 points may be on the steep side for some properties, the mid-priced properties can offer solid value and an exciting option when compared to nearby high-end IHG hotels.
Take for instance San Francisco; if you are looking for a couple of nights stay in a high-quality property, you will now end up paying 140,000 points after IHG hiked the price of a stay in the InterContinental San Francisco, and the InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco to 70,000 points per night.
You may want to consider staying at the Kimpton Buchanan or the Kimpton Sir Francis Drake, which would set you back 55,000 per night or 110,000 points for both nights.
Switching your stay to one of these Kimpton properties would save you 30,000 points over the two-night stay.
Our Take
Coming a week after IHG hiked award pricing this is good news. It doesn't soften the blow of the price hike, but at least we've got access to more high-end properties at less than the highest possible price.

the new Kimpton Seafire in Grand Cayman is fantastic
I have lots of IHG points! Will have a try
Definitely seems like a nice option to have. Never stayed at a Kimpton before, but hopefully soon…
This is a great addition. Kimpton has some great properties and I love their pet policy. I’ll have to look into this redemption soon.
Im having a 1 Week Stay at San Francisco in Summer 2018 – thought about InterConti – but your Idea with the Kimpton is way better!
Thanks for the Hint!!
Never stayed at Kimpton before; this might be an incentive to do so.
Wish they would offer a promotional discount rate on points being redeemed for Kimpton.
Looking at Kimpton in Seattle and they are pricey but great redemption options. The San Francisco Kimptons don’t have rewards night available for 5 random nights I looked at, so they’re like regular IHG hotels – almost zero availability.
using the free certificates at Kimpton is a huge plus
Looks like a great option!
Finally, they are integrating the programs.
A little advantage after a devaluation.
And we are talking of about 60 properties US located.
Definitely the only exceptional value is the PointBreaks promo.
I like Kimpton, too. Glad it is possible now.
I’ve already made my booking for a Kimpton next week. This is a very nice use of my Chase Free Night. I’m looking forward to trying their amenities. Definitely a step up from what I see on the website.
The devaluation is frustrating, but the addition of Kimpton is welcomed!
I am beginning to love the IHG credit card annual free night ever so much more!
I’ve noticed that a lot of people say wonderful things about Kimpton properties. Really makes me want to stay in one!
I’m going to have to look into how they look and where they are more. Any other great hotels that are not too expensive?
love the Special K!
Are Kimpton hotels considered a luxury brand?
You should check out the Kimpton properties. I think it’ll become quite apparent as to what class of property they’re considered.
Is there any Info about what date the Changes will start effectively?
Price increases are January 16, 2018.
What’s the best Kimpton hotel you’ve ever stayed at?
Think I am going to enjoy this option! A positive benefit.
Are Kimpton properties primarily in a single part of the world? I’m not very familiar with them
U.S.
Wow! That’s a good option for IHG. I’ve never stayed at a Kimpton but I’ve heard they are nice hotels.
They are fantastic. Pet-friendly and wine happy hour every night, big win.
Yes, definitely fantastic hotels! Since the acquisition was announced a number of years ago, I’ve been looking forward to the time we’d be able to use points & our IHG free night certs for Kimptons. Those certs just keep getting more valuable; arguably the best annual perk for any CC, in my opinion.
I’m really happy they finally integrated IHG!!!
With the devaluation, this additional option will make it easier to spend points on a quality hotel in certain cities.
I never been to Kimpton hotels. Are they so good?
They are excellent.
Glad they finally integrated IHG and Kimpton together!
That’s a good way to spend the devaluated IHG points.
I stayed at the Kimpton on Wilshire in LA. Wonderful boutique property with an amazing rooftop pool, lounge, and restaurant. We spent our entire weekend up there. Definitely call this a win.
