Choosing which Delta Choice Benefits can be difficult once you have achieved Platinum or Diamond Medallion Status. For Diamonds, the global upgrade certificates are seemingly a no-brainer if you're traveling outside the US. It's that second choice that can be tricky.
As a Diamond, you might consider gifting Gold Medallion status to someone else, which is a great gift to bestow, or maybe you'll upgrade your SkyClub membership to an Executive one so you can bring guests when you visit. However, things are going to become a little more interesting for Diamond members, since Delta is will be tweaking their Choice Benefits in 2018.
More Choices – Big Win for Diamond Medallion Members
The changes will be implemented starting in 2018. For Delta Diamond members, the following changes are happening:
- Diamonds will receive 3 Choice Benefits, as opposed to the current 2
- Diamond members will no longer be given individual complimentary Sky Club membership
- Diamond members will be able to select individual Sky Club membership as one of their Choice Benefits
- Diamond members who also hold the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card or the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card will be able to upgrade to an Executive membership as one of their choices.
Although Delta has not confirmed any other changes (nor have they made an official statement about these changes online), the rumor on the grapevine is that they will offer Platinum members two choices, as well as possibly allowing Gold members to have some kind of choice as well.
A Positive Change for Once
Once Delta has fully released the details of all these changes, it should be a good thing in the long run. This change gives more choices, as well as enhancing the value of the Delta Reserve and Business Delta Reserve cards, which now gives its holders some more options.

Agree with Vitali. Gold Medallion is very disappointing and should be overhauled. Airlines miss a big opportunity when they neglect their entry-level tier.
What’s this? An improvement from Delta?
Hey, it happens every once in a while.
Can’t be negatives forever!
finally something decent from Delta
Allowing Gold members to have some kind of choice as well should be quite high on their priority considering how difficult it is to get one.
