Most major airlines have been upgrading their Premium products, and Delta is no different; as we reported a while back, Delta is introducing new fully enclosed Business Class suites. It seems that Delta is now spreading the use of their Premium cabin fleets to more destinations; as of June the 8, 2017, one of Delta’s 757’s that is equipped with Lie-Flat Seats will be used to and from San Diego.

The aircraft will be used on the daily flight from New York’s JFK (Delta 2647) to San Diego, and the return flight (Delta 403) from San Diego to JFK.

Delta Air Lines Aircraft

These aircraft designated 75s are one of Delta’s Premium offerings and are generally used on transcontinental flights. The 757s are equipped with 16 Lie-Flat seats that are configured in a 2-2 arrangement. They also offer 44 Delta Comfort Plus seats and 108 regular economy seats. The entire aircraft is equipped with AC power outlets at every seat, and on-demand in-flight entertainment; the aircraft also offers Gogo Wi-Fi throughout.

It is clear that Delta is responding to pressure from other airlines, who have upgraded the quality of the service they are offering into San Diego, particularly JetBlue’s recent announcement that it is adding new destinations to its Mint product equipped fleet. And also, factoring in Alaska’s new service from Newark to San Diego, and American upgrading the seating on their 757’s, used on the JFK- San Diego route. While it is unclear what United are doing, they do have a surplus of 757s equipped with a Lie-Flat business class cabins, so they too can respond and jump in on the action. Whatever United does it is all great news for everyone, with more Premium offerings now available to another destination.
