EVA Air is one of the smaller but beloved Asian airlines. From its main base in Taipei, the airline serves destinations in Asia, Europe, and North America. Since its inception in 1989, EVA Air has developed a reputation for delivering excellent service.
Its loyalty program is called Infinity MileageLands, which is also the name of its mileage currency. The program has a relatively generous mileage expiration policy, but you'll want to familiarize yourself with when your miles will expire before initiating a transfer to the program.
Here is all you need to know about EVA Air's mileage expiration policy.
Do EVA Air Infinity MileageLands Miles Expire?
EVA miles generally expire 36 months after being earned. Per the EVA Air MileageLands mileage accrual terms and conditions page:
Award Miles earned by travelling on EVA Air / UNI Air international flights, or through non-flight partners, will be retained for only thirty-six (36) months from: a) the travel date; or b) the application date for transfer of mileage from the non-flight partner's points system.
Expired Award Miles will be automatically cancelled without notice and subtracted from the total Awards Mile mileage accrued in the Member's account.
However, there's an exception if you reside in a country that prohibits airlines from allowing miles to expire based on time alone:
“Where an Infinity MileageLands member's jurisdictional legal regime prohibits the expiration of Award Miles based on time alone, Award Miles will only expire after thirty-six (36) months from: a) the travel date; or b) the application date for transfer of mileage from the non-flight partner's points system only if the Infinity MileageLands member fails engage in certain account activity.”
For travelers based in these countries, you can extend your miles with qualifying activity:
The required account activity to avoid expiration of Award Miles is:
(1) to redeem any Awards Miles during the thirty-six (36) months from: a) the travel date; or b) the application date for transfer of mileage from the non-flight partner's points system; and
(2) to travel on an EVA Air / UNI Air international flight(s) within the twelve (12) months prior to the date when Award Miles would otherwise expire.
If your miles expire, you can pay to reinstate them within six months of expiration. Reinstated miles will be valid for another 12 months. Miles are reinstated in multiples of 1,000, at a cost of $10 per 1,000 miles.

Best Ways To Use EVA Air Miles
EVA Air awards are generally more expensive than other programs. However, there is still some value and excellent sweet spots to be had. One of the best uses of EVA Air miles is to book a Star Alliance round-the-world trip in business class. This will cost 325,000 miles but can include 10 flight sectors and 7 stopovers. If you are strategic with your award, booking these awards can provide exceptional value.
Another great option for using EVA Air miles involves leveraging its generous routing rules to maximize the value of your award. Round-trip awards within the same region allow one stopover on the outbound leg and one on the return leg, with a maximum of six flight sectors.
This can be an excellent value in regions with lots of countries a short hop away. A simple itinerary could look like the following:
- Brussels to Copenhagen with Brussels Airlines
- Copenhagen to Munich with SAS or Lufthansa
- Munich to Rome with Lufthansa
- Rome to Brussels with SWISS
This entire trip — in business class — will set you back just 55,000 miles plus taxes and fees.

Our Take
EVA Air Infinity MileageLands do expire. Unless you redeem them, EVA Air miles generally expire at the end of the 36th month after which they were originally earned.
With the right strategy, you can extract excellent value from your EVA Air miles. However, some parts of the airline's award chart are better than others. You'd be wise to come up with a plan on how to redeem your miles before initiating a transfer to the program.
