Frontier Airlines is a 30-year-old ultra-low-cost carrier based in Denver, Colorado. The airline serves destinations across the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America. Interestingly, among U.S. carriers, Frontier operates an all-Airbus fleet of predominantly A320s and A321s.
The airline's loyalty program is Frontier Miles. This revenue-based program lets you accrue miles and redeem them for awards. Similar to most programs, its miles have an expiration policy — which it just adjusted this week.
Here is all you need to know, including some good news for Frontier Airlines co-brand credit cardholders.
Do Frontier Miles Expire?
Frontier Miles do expire if there is no accrual activity on your account in the past 12 months. Per the Frontier T&C page:
“Miles in a Member’s account do not expire so long as the Member generates accrual activity every twelve months; this includes any purchase activity on the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard.”
That means that only earning miles — not redeeming miles — counts towards extending the validity of your miles.
New cardholder exemption to Frontier expiration policy
Fortunately, there's a way to keep your Frontier miles from ever expiring. As of November 1, 2024, cardholders of the FRONTIER Airlines World Mastercard® miles do not expire as long as their account is open. Per an addition to the Frontier T&Cs:
“Miles for Frontier Airlines World Mastercard cardmembers do not expire as long as their credit card account remains active and in good standing.”

How to Earn Frontier Miles
Earning Frontier miles in any of the following ways will count towards extending the validity of your mileage balance.
- Fly on Frontier (listing your loyalty number on the ticket).
- Spend on your FRONTIER Airlines World Mastercard®.
- Buy flowers with Teleflora or wine with Vinesse.
- Rent a car with Alamo, Avis, Budget, National, Hertz, or Thrifty.
- Stay at Marriott Bonvoy or Wyndham Rewards.
- Buy Frontier miles.
- Spend with Home Chef.
- Take a Frontier cruise.
Boosting Your Frontier Mileage Balance
Unfortunately, you do not have many options if you want to transfer points to boost your Frontier Miles balance. The airline does not partner with any of the major flexible credit card currencies. However, you can transfer several hotel points to Frontier if you need to boost your mileage in a pinch. You can transfer all of the following miles to Frontier.
Tracking Your Frontier Mileage Expiration with AwardWallet
12 months is very short in terms of mileage expiration. As such, keeping a close eye on your frontier mileage balance is important. The easiest way to do this is to use AwardWallet to track your Frontier Miles balance. That way, you will receive a timely reminder if you have any miles in danger of expiration.
To use AwardWallet to track your Frontier Miles, log into your AwardWallet account and then link your Frontier Miles account. AwardWallet will start tracking your miles balance and expiration date — notifying you ahead of any expiration.
Our Take
A 12-month expiration policy is a little on the stingy side of things, especially when you factor in the limited number of ways to extend the validity of your miles.
That said, if you are a regular Frontier flyer, you will be used to earning and burning your miles, and you may consider a Frontier co-brand credit card to make it even easier to keep your mileage balance from expiring.
