British Airways is running a promotion that will let you earn double base Avios on flights through December 31, 2017. This is the first double Avios promotion for flying this year, with previous BA double Avios promotions, being for shopping through their online portal. FYI, this promotion is not valid for Executive Club members based in the US, Mexico, Canada, or South Africa.
Key Terms
- You must register for the promotion
- Promo is for travel through December 31, 2017 – All flight segments must be completed by this date
- Promo is not valid for BA Executive Club members registered in the USA, Canada, Mexico and South Africa.
- Bonus is valid for up to 8 flight segments
Which Flights Qualify for the Promo
The following flights qualify for earning double Avios
- Any BA operated flights
- Any transatlantic flights with a BA flight number operated by Iberia, Finnair, or AA
- Flights from Paris to New York under Open skies (BA operated)
- Flights Operated by SUNAIR of Scandinavia on behalf of BA
The following flights Do NOT qualify for the double Avios offer
- Oneworld partner operated flights, even when there is a BA flight number
- BA franchise partner operated flights
- BA codeshare flights
Maximizing The Offer
If you are a frequent flyer and will be taking 8 or more eligible flights you need to take some steps to maximize your earnings from the offer as you will only earn on the first eight flight segments. The way to maximize your earnings is to focus your next eligible flights with BA on long-haul routes only; if you have short-haul flights in between the long-haul ones consider switching them to another airline, or crediting them to another program. Your next eight eligible flights should be the longest you can make them.
Overall
If you collect Avios and don’t live in the any of the excluded territories, this promotion is a great way to boost your Avios earning for the next few months.

I make it a habit to sign up for all mileage promos. Never know when you might make use of it.
Brilliant. Thanks for pointing this out…i travel in UK most weeks..
I won’t travel with British soon, otherwise it’s a good offer, especially for the classes which earn more Avios. I hope for another promo nect year.
Bummer I can’t take advantage of this because I have some upcoming long-haul BA flights. I hope others are able to maximize their points though!
I’m ineligible for this promo but kudos to those who can take advantage of it. Earning double (or more) points is key in this hobby.
thanks for share this info.
Great opportunity for an end-of-the-year dash!
I agree with Brian G. Great promo!
Great tip!
Great promo!
it sucks that Americans can’t take advantage of this.
We are an entitled bunch that tend to get the best promotion. Every once in a while we need to be left out!
If BA wasn’t such an overpriced no-frills carrier I might consider booking some flights, but BA is now one of the worst airlines in Europe.
yikes! don’t hold back.
In common with many other airlines in Europe they charge for food and drink in short haul if not flying business class. I’m not sure it is fair to call them a no frills carrier though, and they are far from being one of the worst airlines in Europe.
North American readers need to read the fine print. Even if you change your BAEC account to Europe, tickets booked in an excluded country, for travel from that country, won’t receive double Avios anyhow…
May as well register. I don’t have much BA flying to come this month, but can’t lose anything. Thanks for the pointer.
This looks like a great promo! Too bad they have the geographic restrictions
Is it open for all classes? Like double in BIZ and First too?
Yes but the double is based on the BASE earning. Not based off of any cabin bonuses.
Great offer but unfortunately US residents are excluded.
Not available to South American? 🙁
It should be eligible to any of the countries NOT in the exclusion list.
This is best a Air Company in UK. But the prices is very expansive in flghts to my country.
Thanks for letting us know, I registered. It won’t make me fly BA more but might as well get bonus Avios if I do.
This is an awesome promotion. I always love to boost my Avios earning because of how easy it is to spend them. OK, so it’s not valid for Executive Club members based out of US, Mexico, Canada…. but still! I think a lot of more casual travelers like myself can benefit from this promotion. As always great useful content by the folks at AwardWallet.
If I have a family and bank account in GB but I’m not residing there though I have family there – can I register for the promo after address change?
We’ve not tried this — if it works for you, please share.
I wonder why they have they brought out this promotion. Perhaps sales are a little slow at the moment.
Amazing. Double points. It is certainly an excellent opportunity.
