IHG's new 4X More promotion is now live, giving you the opportunity to earn up to 4X points per night for your stays. The promotion is valid for stays through May 15, 2020. However, you need to register by April 15, 2020, and you will not start earning bonus points until you register. While the promotion advertises earning 4X points, you will need to stay 15 nights before the 4X earning kicks in.

Key Terms

  • You need to register for the promotion by April 15, 2020.
  • The offer is valid for stays up to May 15, 2020.
  • Earn up to 4X points per night on your qualifying nights.
  • To qualify, the total spending per night (before taxes) must exceed $30.
  • The maximum number of points that can be earned from the promotion is 301,000.
  • Allow 2 to 3 weeks after the promotion for the bonus points to post to your account.

While the promotion offers up to 4X points per stay, the earning schedule is tiered, and you will have to stay 15 nights for the 4X earning to kick in. The points earning schedule with the promotion is as follows:

  • Earn 1,000 bonus points for your first night.
  • During nights 2-5, earn 2X points up to a maximum of 100,000 points.
  • During nights 6-14, earn 3X points up to a maximum of 100,000 points.
  • From the 15 night onwards, earn 4X points per night up to a maximum of 100,000 points.

The bonus is only applied to the base earnings for the stay. The bonus points that elite memberssuch as cardholders of the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Cardearn due to their elite status will not be multiplied through this promotion.

Our Take

If you are a frequent IHG guest and have a lot of stays planned over the next couple of months, then this promotion could prove quite lucrative. On the other hand, if you only have a handful of stays planned, then it may be worth your while to shop around and see what other offers and promotions other hotel brands are offering. Either way, it's a no brainer to register for this promotion to get bonus points from any IHG stays you complete during the stay period.

Overall, the promotion is attractive. However, the 15-night threshold to trigger the 4X earning bonus is a little on the high side considering the promotion time frame.

  • It might be helpful to note the promotion code in your assessment for those who aren’t signed into their IHG account when they click through since it’s not readily apparent. IHG is weird like that. Thanks.

    • If you find you need the promo code for any reason, you can see the code in the link AW provided above. There, it’s listed as 87594.

Thanks for the heads up. Do you have any expectations about bonuses/rates/other offers from hotels and airlines as the coronavirus becomes more widespread? Me, I wish I was in Cambodia with no crowds.

    • There’s no real way to predict anything in that regard with any accuracy, but no doubt the travel industry has been hit hard by the outbreak; the longer the saga continues, the more likely we’ll see bigger incentives for travel. The tricky part, however, will be the difficulties created if countries begin to officially close borders, etc. Time will tell.

    • I wonder whether the chains are going to do that just to fill the rooms for the summer holiday season.

  • What’s the promo code? I logged into my IHG account, the promo appears. I click the “Register Now” button and it prompts me to enter a Promo Code. I tried “4X2020” but that didn’t work.

  • No more Pointsbreak. Guess they rather dish out bonus points instead of reward reduction.

  • With IHG not compensating the nights when booked in company’s account, the program is not so attractive in comparison with other international hotel chains

  • Hopefully, the status match will return soon.

No promo code needed. The promo just popped up and I clicked on “register now” and it registered me.

  • I am surprised by the absence of the bonus promotion blitz because of the collapse of the travel demand.

  • 15 night threshold is insane. What was IHG thinking?

  • Dan Gibbons says:

Why do they always want you to register ? Especially if you are Gold or above ? It should just be automatic if you are more than just the first tier member.

  • Dan Gibbons says:

I didn’t really read the fine print until I came to this website. Not really a great promo from them this time. They have done so much better in the past. I’ll still stay with them, like I am tonight and tomorrow night !!

  • For the Covid-19 I haven’t done any stay lately. On the contrary I’ve cancelled some future stays (also in IHG chain).
