Marriott is offering double points starting with your second stay through June 4, 2019. While it probably isn’t worth going out of your way to take advantage of the deal, it’s certainly worth registering by the May 21st deadline to make sure you earn the extra points for stays you already have planned.

Key Terms

  • You need to register for the promotion by May 21, 2019
  • The promotion is valid for stays through June 4, 2019
  • Earn double base points starting from your second stay
  • Marriott Bonvoy credit card holders receive an extra 500 bonus points for a weekend stays
  • Cardholders earn the 500 bonus points from their first stay
  • A weekend stay must include a Friday or Saturday night
  • Allow up to 6 weeks from the end of the promotion for the bonus points to post to your account

Our Take

While double base points are not especially lucrative compared to past promotions, it only takes a few seconds to claim them. The only disappointing aspect of this offer is that you don’t earn any extra base points until your second stay. However, the weekend-night bonus of 500 points is good from your first stay, which is a nice win.

If you or one of your travel companions don’t already have a Marriott Bonvoy account, there is a much better promotion for new members offering a free night after completing two stays. You can find our writeup on the new-member promo here.

For those looking to squeeze every bit of value out of a three-night weekend stay, there may be a way to trigger two stays on a single weekend with a little extra work. We haven't tested this, but a stay is usually defined by consecutive nights. If you're traveling with a companion from Friday to Monday, you might consider having one person book Friday and Sunday night from his or her Marriott account, and the other person book Saturday.

If you have a free night certificate from one of the many Marriott co-branded cards, you might be able to book the middle night with your annual free-night certificate. If you book the same room type for all three reservations, the hotel may be able to link your reservations so you don't have to change rooms.  One of the AwardWallet staff will be testing this out in June to see if his travel companion can snag the free night from the new-member promotion. We'll report back with results. In the meantime, we'd love to hear from you in the comments.

  • My old Marriott membership expired, am I eligible for a new membership bonus?

  • Gotta love all the Marriott promos! It’s always great to be able to earn more points from stays I’d be doing anyways!

  • I booked a 2-nt weekend stay with my points the first night res & my family mbrs new mbr free night on the second res. I called & linked both res, & I received credit for 2 nights.

This is better than nothing I suppose. I am sticking with Marriott Bonvoy. The name has grown on me. It’s much better than World of Hyatt, but what isn’t? I am very close to Lifetime Silver with Bonvoy. I know that’s nothing for most of the people reading this, but for me it’s a big deal.

  • I really hate how Marriott does this “start on your second stay” kind of promotions. They just can’t be straightforward with giving out points!

  • I will sign up but it’s not worth changing any stays for this promotion, there are definitely better deals. Especially since it does not kick in until the second stay.

  • Definitely not as lucrative. If you’re going anyhow, why not register, but doesn’t make me want to go just for the miles.

  • I’m wondering how this will play out for current reservations. We have two rooms booked for a college graduation weekend when they offered no discounts and no points with no exceptions but we booked a Thursday night using our free night certificate. Do you think the free night would count as one stay and the two rooms for two nights following count as qualifying for the bonus?

We also have 8 nights books in Medellin starting June 1st so the promotion ends during our stay. How can I maximize the bonus for each of these stays?

  • Really short promo, especially since the first stay doesn’t count…

  • A nice promotion if you are already staying at a Marriott. It does not move the needle for me to change from my preferred Hyatt brand.

  • I always register straight away for these promotions so as not to forget.

  • Thank you for this information, I will sign up and hopefully take advantage of this promotion. I have some single nights booked, but might be able to extend for some.

  • I heard there were also targeted offers for double QN counts.
I really wish I had that offer available in my account.

  • Thanks, for the heads up!

  • Evann O'Donnell says:

    love this

  • Thanks for the information! Great promotion~

  • I look forward to seeing the result of the AwardWallet staff test in June. Maybe a reader might even have the opportunity to test out the theory before this.

  • I think Marriott is good. I usually find they are more expensive but have a good foot print. I would love to earn more with Marriott. Maybe they will have another promo, they usually do.
I have family that always stays with them when they visit us and I would like to stay with Marriott more too. Maybe one day.

  • Just registered. Thanks for the heads up!

  • Nothing wrong with double points. Thanks for the info.

  • Marlin Seevers says:

Thanks for letting us know about the promotion. It would be hard to keep up with those kinds of things without some help.

  • Waiting until after the second stay is pretty standard for a deal, but it’s nice to have a double offer!

  • look promo if you have multiple stays but not for a single stay

  • Mark Singer says:

Thanks. This will come in handy since I stay at Marriott often.

  • Brian Gallagher says:

Awesome! Registered. Thanks for letting us know about this.

  • Just registered even though I don’t think I’ll take profit of this offer.
I have some stays in other hotels already booked.

  • Nice way to get extra points if you are already staying there.

  • I’m rarely able to take advantage of this kind of offer. Maybe some day…

  • I always register. Never know when stays may be needed and you might forget about this offer then. So do it now.

  • Still good to see such an offer!

  • These double points promotions are great to rack up some points.

  • Seems like they are almost always offering double points as a promotion

  • I wish it was a bit longer, at least covering the first several weeks of summer..

  • I’m very much looking forward to the day that AW automates these registrations for us. Goodness, wouldn’t that be something! Would never miss one again, and save us all sorts of time. 🙂

The Marriott IT is so messed up, my longer first stay, which didn’t credit properly, actually counted as my second stay after it posted after my second stay (which posted properly).
